Attendance down for 1st round

I was told James Weber is covering for the Enquirer......he has been here every day, I'm willing to bet he's not HAPPY his efforts are "all for not".

This is all on the "higher ups" at the Enquirer.

Ask James Weber if he can post his stories here on bluegrass preps. At least we can read them since they aren't in the newspaper. Hard to understand why they send him over to cover the tournament and then run zilch.

NKY Tribune web site has coverage of the Sweet 16. Enquirer can't even get the Reds final score in the paper.

The NKY Tribune does a nice job with it. It reminds me of The Kentucky Post and the great job they did with preps. The sooner the Enquirer folds, the better for the area. Maybe a real newspaper will take over.

The attendance will be up for Friday's afternoon session but since the 9th and 10th region teams are now eliminated it will fall off significantly from here on out. If both Camels and Holmes would have won the semi session would have been a significant increase. But when you are isolated in one part of the state it hurts once the local teams are eliminated

Newspaper coverage for sports here has been not so hot for quite a few years, even before electronic media came into it own. I don't know why folks are surprised. I do agree with others on here that there was virtually NO promoting of the Ladies Sweet 16 here in Northern KY.

Trimble County did their part. One of the smallest counties in the state brought over 1000 fans in Wednesday night. Not a bad following for a school 80 minutes away.

Trimble County had a great following with 1,000 fans at least. My old school and the closest team, Holmes, probably brought less than 300 even though the games were right across the river. With Campbell County now gone, the attendance is going to suffer Saturday.

This is where the KHSAA dropped the basketball big time. They should have purchased a full-page ad in both newspapers (Enquirer, Northern Ky. Tribune) and bought a 30-second ad to run ob television earlier this week on two of the local stations. This is not BB&T or NKU or the Chamber of Commerce, this is on the KHSAA.

They announced the crowd this afternoon on the audio broadcast as the second largest crowd ever to see a girls Sweet 16 game. 6,000 plus.

That is great. Too bad both locals lost or I think Saturday would have been even been more.

I kind of have to fault NKU a little also. They are the ones in the Lex Herald article claiming that they want it "for years to come". So I get a ton of emails from NKU and not one of them was about the Sweet 16 .......but they sent them about the Barry Manilow concert.

OK, we all seem to disagree on who is at fault for the lack of publicity.

The bottom line is - It wasn't promoted, and there are no outward signs of the event even taking place in our city/region.

We've known for over a year now that the event was coming. Certainly some committee was formed to provide community awareness to the Cincy/No Kentucky area.

A very small thing, like placing a 12"x18" placard in the window of each Highland Heights/Cold Spring/Wilder eatery, would have brought instant awareness to our entire community.

I think the US27 corridor has the capabilities of hanging "theme" flags/banners from the utility poles lining the highway.

Certainly a picture on the front page of the Enquirer detailing the event, or a preview insert, would have been appropriate. The bottom line is that the event is being held like a private party in a capsule/vacuum, with little or no community awareness. It surprises me that James Weber, who works for the Recorder Newspapers would be reporting for the Enquirer. Maybe he does, but since I stopped getting newspapers when The Postwent down, I wouldn't know. I've also seen Rick Broering in the house covering the event for someone.

There have been several times while driving this week that I've started tp reach for the radio knob to listen to whatever game is in progress, only to realize that there is no radio coverage here in NoKy of the games. Unfortunately my flip-phone is not smart enough to get the internet broadcasts.

We all agree, somebody dropped the ball big-time. We still get one more whack at it in 2017 to get it right. Unfortunately, by then the decision on the future of the event will already have been made.

OK, Its time our local pundits stop throwing the 7,000 figure around.

It's obviously less than 6,000, and more often 5,500 that are actually in the house for the 9th Region Semis, and for Wednesday night's session of the "Sweet Sixteen."

Agree with the lack of the buzz factor of signage and just general getting the word out.

Just not sure how many suitors are lining up for the Girls Sweet 16. Never thought the All-A would leave Richmond, the Soccer finals have to be held at a high school, heck if WKU decided to not do the Football Finals not sure how much interest there would even be in those.

It is not NKU's fault. They have nothing to do with this event. This is a joint venture between the BB&T management and the KHSAA. Any promoting or publicity had to come from one of those two. It amazes me that neither had to foresight to approach the newspapers and television stations months ago.

Yes, if there was 6,000 in the place it was when one group arrived while the other was watching the end of the first game. There did not appear to be more than 4,000 at the first game, maybe 1,500 at the second. The 6,000 announced is maybe counting everyone one and a half times.
