Three generational Sweet Sixteen families?

Featured Replies

Ron Dawn played in the Sweet Sixteen with Newport Catholic in the early/mid 70s (1973,74), his son Ronnie played in the Sweet Sixteen with NCC in 2000, and now his grandson Steven Pangallo is playing with NCC in the 2016 Sweet Sixteen. Anyone else out there got a 3 generational Sweet Sixteen family? I don't think its happened in northern Kentucky, if ever, in a very long time because all of the "power" schools over the past 40 years (Holmes, CovCath, NewCath, Highlands) have had long droughts in between clumps of dominance. Am I forgetting anyone? My first thought was Jim Shumate at Dixie in the 50s, and his grandson played at CovCath the last couple years, but I don't think any of his sons won a regional at CovCath in the 80s. Then there is Dick Maile, Rich Maile, Luke Maile, the Mahers at CovCath now ... do they have the trifecta? Anyone?

Wow! How did I miss that one? Sorry Joe!

Wow, saw this question asked on FB yesterday and thought it would be a great BGP thread. Good call to get this going Pete. Mayer by the way at CovCath. ; ) I'm sure you were maybe thinking of former Cov Latin star Dave Maher. Lol

Great add Stinky....I remember Joe Jr being a nasty leadoff hitter at Highlands on the diamond with wheels. Who was the starting 5 in 86'? Weyer, Blasingame, Draud, Cox & Cowie?

The Myricks from Mason county I'm sure. And I know theres at least 2 Lofton generations. Chris in 2003 and Jaylen in 2016. Not sure of anyone before Chris but I wouldn't doubt that theres someone ahead of him

It's possible the Myrick's have 4. Depends on if/when the oldest Myrick (Cere Sr.) played.

Cere Myrick II (1978)

Timmy Myrick (1992-1994)

Isaiah Garrison (2016)

I would think a team that has made many appearances, such as Owensboro, would have some.

....not anymore.

I don't know if Louisville area school has had any 3 recently, but I know Shelby County had Norris Beckley in 1976, '77 and '78 and his son Boomer (Norris Jr.) in 2006 and '10.

The Smiths of Hazel Green/Laurel Co./South Laurel

Hazard seems to have had Olinger's in every generation dating back to the '60s. My guess is that family would fit this criteria.
