Mason County 48 Augusta 41 (10th Region Championship)

Featured Replies

Can we dispense with the "whoever wants it more wins the game" cliche? I don't think anyone can say that Augusta wanted to win less than Mason County.

Royals had the best player on the floor last night. It took about 36 minutes, but the Panthers finally got worn down. That combination was the difference in the game. Not desire.

First off, Congrats to Mason County on getting back to Rupp. Buddy Biggs came in with a plan to basically remove Connor Maddox from the offensive end of the floor, and he basically did that. Pig Williams did an outstanding job covering him all night. The 8 first half points from Dunaway were HUGE for the Royals. they needed something to get them over the hump, and key buckets by Levi did that.

Next, hats off to Augusta, man. Over the last 4 (and for some of you, 5) years, you all have put on a run like no team in the history of our school has. 3 district titles, a Class A Region Title, and now a Region Runner-up. The trophy you hauled back north last night, the experiences you gave the community, and the class individuals you all are will be talked about for generations. Thanks for letting all of us see a part of it.

Finally, to the fine folks of Montgomery County: what a show you put on! Yeah, the drive isn't the best, but it's not THAT bad. You all did an outstanding job hosting. Top to bottom, everything was handled well. Someone from your group tustve stopped by 3 or 4 times each night to make sure we had everything we needed on press row. We'll see you again in 4 years.

Agreed on all three counts.

People love playing the blame game when there's conflict, and you're not winning. Who's to "blame" for the win? Everyone's happy when you're winning, whether the coach is good or not.

Congratulations to Buddy Biggs and the Royals.

And for those Augusta kids: They left they're mark on a community that will last with them for generations to come. You know you're doing something right when you have everyone from every school on your side pulling for David. The Augusta Story will be something my kids will pass down to their kids who will remember that time when big time team from a small school made history. We all have been blessed to watch this happen. And it will never happen again.

And as Brett Hart said, this team is: "The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.

Royals going back to Rupp, and their road there wasn't an easy one. Had to beat the 2-time defending champs, then had to beat the team who'd won the most regular season games, & then had to beat the team that had beaten them in the District. Sounds like defense was the Royals calling card in this one.

Hat's off also to Augusta. Been a pleasure watching the Maddox/Snapp/Crawford trio these last four seasons. I know the loss had to really sting for the Panthers, but no reason to hang your heads. You guys just gave an entire community something to talk about for the rest of their lives.

Best of luck to Mason County at Rupp.

Great game and great tournament

He may have not won the award but Pig Williams is the best player in the 10th and it's not even close, he does so much for this team and proved how far he can really take them.

The one thing I wish the 10th would do is name an all-tournament team. As a consolation prize, here's papa's.

Campbell County - Matt Wilson

Harrison County - Zack Pulliam

Pendleton County - Dontaie Allen

Scott - Jake Ohmer

Paris - Jakobi Wells, Koebe Garrard (or Eric Johnson; tough call)

Montgomery County - Caswell Fuller, Shelby Combs

Augusta - Cam Snapp, Connor Maddox, Owens Crawford

Mason County - Darren Williams, Connor Sweeney, Isaiah Garrison

MVP - Pig Williams

It's stupid that the 10th doesn't do an All-Tournament Team.

Your list seems spot-on, though.

Why doesn't the 10th pick an all Regional tournament team? I like your choices. I would probably go with Johnson over Garrard but that's just my opinion. And maybe Leevi Dunaway over Sweeney just due to his defense and contributions primarily in the finals.

It wasn't a micro soccer game. You have 15 making all tourney.

Give everybody a medal!!

Yep. Fairly standard format. 1 from first-round losing teams, 2 from semi-losing teams, 3 from the runnerup, 3 +MVP from the champs.

I feel an overwhelming need to reconsider.

Pretty much the same format used by the 37th District. They had 5 teams & an 8-man team.

39th doesn't do an All Tournament Team or MVP either. IMO. Shame to not Create a special recognition that most will cherish a lifetime.
