What is ISIL?

Featured Replies

I saw a video clip last night and President Obama used the term "ISIL" to identify our enemy. I've heard him use this term before.

I haven't heard anyone else use this term as far as I can remember.

Does ISIL = ISIS?

Does ISIL include ISIS but also some other entities?

Anyone know?

The "President" continues to say that even though everyone else in the world says ISIS.

ISIL, ISIS, IS, Daesh, all the same thing.

ISIL is "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant". Levant is a broad geographic term, but it basically encompasses the middle east from Egypt to Iraq.

ISIS is "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria", which defines the borders a little tighter than ISIL. However, with members from all across the region and political turmoil causing the borders to be less meaningful, using the term ISIL is probably more appropriate.

IS is simply "Islamic State", a shortened version of both, while Daesh is an acronym of an Arabic description of the organization.

All terms are acceptable and mean the same thing.

Why the quotation marks?

Anyone listen to Howard Stern's ISIS hotline sketch a few months ago?

Why the quotation marks?

Because he sucks

Because he sucks

Ugghhhh!! Where's my damn like button?!?!?

Why the quotation marks?

Because he's not a legitimate president, of course. You know, born in Kenya, Muslim , not one of us , yada, yada, yada...Trump talk. Typical foolishness.

yes, absolutely hilarious.

It has nothing to do with Trump. It has to do with almost 8 years of evidence and data.

What evidence and data are you using to form your opinion, the stock market, unemployment, jobs, just curious?

Born and raised in Kenya would explain why he doesn't know the bill on capitol hill song.
