Presidential Hopefuls

Featured Replies

While we all have debated and debated and hated and hated on all the candidates we do not like, what do we want in a President? What do you want to see your president do specifically? Forget the players, what policies do you want passed? I will start:

1. I want the health care act reformed. Dont know exactly but Obamacare needs to go in its current form.

2. I want the Military to be built back up to a reasonable level so we are not stretched so thin.

3. The current drug laws need to be redone. Mandatory Minimums need to go. Too many in jail, not enough help for the helpless here.

4. Budget balanced and a plan to reduce the 19T we owe.

Thats four things. I dont care who does it, Republican or Democrat. Of course I want alot more but this is a starting place.

In Addition to JJ's ideas I'd like to add

5. Total reboot of the VA, health care for Veterans shouldn't be at the low standard that it is at now...it is shameful.

6. Something, anything put in place for Homeless Veterans...if you put your life on the line for this country the least the country can do is put a roof over your head.

7. Tax Reform, remove loopholes and ensure everyone pays...Flat Tax or Fair Tax would be my ideal starting point for Tax Reform

8. The President's most basic job is to enforce and carry out the laws enacted by congress. I'd like to see an administration that would enforce current laws as written before worrying about making sweeping and in most cases nonsensical changes.

1. I want to continue health care reform. Obamacare wasn't complete; too many private interests involved.

2. Time to stop acting unilaterally. We can be the qb, but we need to use the rest of the team with these conflicts around the world. Pouring out a lot of American dollars and wasting too many American lives.

3. Refocus on Education: A. Ease the cost of post secondary education and training on our young people. We hamper them for years with these exorbitant loans and costs. FWIW Universities are just as guilty. 2. Lower classroom size and make teaching a profession in this country that can attract the best.

4. Address income inequality. Too much of our nation's wealth being held in the hands of the few. Redistribute in ways to assist the common good (national debt and infrastructure would be a good place to start).

5. I want my president to continue the discussion about the misuse of guns. No war on guns just how can we protect gun rights and innocent citizens.

1) I want ObamaCare to stay.

2) I want a president that does not use religion to base decisions.

3) I want existing immigration laws enforced.

4) I want a President who can lead us to true gun reform, not abolish gun ownership.

5) I want a President who values everyone regardless of their beliefs.

6) I want a flat tax where everyone pays the same percentage and I don't care what that percentage is or sales tax only on all purchases. I don't care if you are a billionaire or extremely impoverished.

7) I want a President that will ensure all children are truly given the same educational opportunities as others.

8) All public education K-16 is free to all citizens.

9) I want term limits to be taken seriously. Presidency is fine. Senators two terms US Representatives 4 terms.

1. Well since we are dreaming here, I'll give it a shot. I'd like to see a president (I don't care about the party affiliation) with the nuts to really address health care in this country. We don't need, nor ever needed, healthcare reform. We need insurance reform. FACT. We need someone who isn't afraid to tick off the 2 largest lobbies in this nation. I've written a novella on the subject that would make BBallfan proud on this board. But that's where it needs to start. Take the $ out of the pockets of the legislators and real reform would happen. The ACA or whatever the hell their calling it now went totally bass ackwards to try to address the problem. And my guess is that either the president (through no fault of his own frankly) doesn't understand, or wasn't advised about the core of the issue. Sure Mr President, this will ensure that all Americans have access to "affordable" healthcare. Couldn't be further from the truth. All the while fully aware of the absurd pile of cash from companies like Humana, or Pfizer, or (insert your fave here) that prop up our elected officials all with the promise of the status quo and inflammatory, wholly unregulated (although they feign otherwise) gouge of the American public.

Find that guy and I'll vote for him.

2. I'll be dipped in :poop: if I'll vote for any form of "income equality" after paying my own way through professional school and busting my hump for nearly 2 decades so some joker who has no friggin' gumption can have some of my pile. PASS. And anyone who thinks that is a good thing has to have a screw loose. A flat tax, fine. Everyone pays the same % would be cool with me.

See how civil we can be when we take the Rs and Ds out of the equation.

Im good with a flat tax and I like term limits for sure, not saying this is all I agree with above, but those two things I really like.

Term limits

Amen!!!

1) protect our borders, people have to be vetted properly

2) lose obamacare, hurting too many needy people

3) tax system- everybody pays something, keep progressive system

4) enforce all gun laws currently on the books before adding new ones

5) welfare reform- able bodied without dependents work

6) get the US government out of financing college

None of these things listed above in all of the posts will or can be addressed by our government as it is currently constituted. We have to demand campaign finance reforms before anything can be accomplished. So that's my "issue."

I said it was a dream
Term limits

Amen!!!

A very good place to start!!

Areas of emphasis:

1. Continue to address man-made climate change.

2. Develop a plan to bring back jobs that have moved overseas in the past quarter-century. Reverse the trend of corporate inversion and tax avoidance. If a big company pays zero in U.S. taxes, toss their file cabinets and potted plants onto a garbage barge in the Atlantic Ocean, then give the barge a shove in the direction of Bermuda.

3. Ensure the stability of Social Security and Medicare.

4. As Barry Goldwater argued in 1964, keep the government (and the influence of organized religion) out of people's lives when it comes to social issues.

5. No more Scalias on the Supreme Court.

6. Is it time to reinstitute the WPA?

**********

Any changes in the taxation system need to be well-thought-out. A flat tax, for instance, likely would severely impact low-income families and senior citizens living on a fixed income.

I'm also not convinced that term limits would be beneficial. This would just increase the power of paid staffers in Congress.

A balanced budget might well be ruinous to the economy.

1. Redo the ACA or whatever it is. Selfishly I like the pre-existing conditions clause in there, but the rest is garbage IMO.

2. Stop the ridiculous war on drugs. It's a waste of time and money. Legalize it, and tax the crap out of it.

3. Stay the hell out of social issues. We need as little government involvement in our personal lives as humanly possible.

4. Stay out of foreign affairs that don't concern us.

5. Reduce/eliminate the IRC. Whether you make $20K or $20M a year, you pay the same percentage in taxes.

6. Stop needless spending. Cut social programs such as SS, welfare. We need to stop with the handouts.

7. Revamp immigration. Anyone here illegally, with a criminal record, is shipped out, and can never return. Those here illegally that have clean records, make them pay a fine, and go through the proper channels to become legal immigrants. We need to make the LEGAL immigration process easier and quicker. Our country was founded as a melting pot for people of all walks of life, from all backgrounds. We need to make sure those around the world who are looking for a better life are able to get one here. You screw up though, you're out for good.
