Lafayette 77 Mercer County 59

Featured Replies

You were afraid that they would go to Lex and stink up the place to a team that is comparable to Boyle and Lincon ?

Lafayette was in a bit of a rough stretch, but is still arguably a top 20 team in the state. Boyle and Lincoln are not comparable (unless you are referring to their teams last season.

Honestly, I didn't see it happening....WHAT!!!!!

I'm still giving you credit! Lol!

Mercer Co is overrated transfers and weak schedule. If u look at the overall scape of it. Mercer beat Lafayette on a last second shot over summer. I knew then when they said they were playing them again they would get beat. Mercer with the transfers would not fair well in the 11th. Let alone the 43rd district. Lafayette beat them by 18 Dunbar would blow them out. Lexington Catholic would beat them and Lexington Christian would hand it to them. Mercer was a good story 20 something and 0 against who though?? They played somebody and got blew out. That's just what it was from the stands. Jaelin Jenkins controlled the pace Harrison Lane found his stroke. Ross Jenkins played big boy basketball. Chris Wharton won off the dribble all night. Eric Powell off the bench was a killer.Jajuante Carpenter was a dog all night and lit them up from all over the court. This proves you can be 291-0 against weak competition and play a team that's in a competitive region with a much harder schedule (Lafayette 15-7) and if you not really that good. You will get EXPOSED! Lafayette Exposed them for what they really were.mercer is a slow but physical if u let them get that way with you team. Don't believe me watch the game tape. Good run for you Mercer and all that hype that came with them. Overrated! The 12th region fans way to show up and support that was really good to see the support from you guys. Jus think Lafayette went to Pulaski Co and lost to Pulaski Southwestern in their home town in the championship game. Mercer needs to beat Southwestern by 20 to get any respect up this way. They not playing nobody. Dunbar was in the building as well as Henry Clay and all say the sane . Mercer would be at the upper bottom in 11th

Mercer would fare fine in the 11th. They are better than Lexington Catholic and LCA. They had a bad night and Lafayette was on fire, hitting over 50% from 3.

They would not be my pick to win the 11th, and I agree with others who are saying they might struggle with an athletic team, but I believe your portrayal of them as a team that wouldn't be a top 6 team in the 11th is shortsighted.

Of all the things that Mercer struggled with and did wrong tonight, Lafayaette's athleticism doesn t make the top 10. Lafayette isn't even overly athletic. Their 2 leading scorers on the season, Ross Jenkins and Lane, wouldn't be labeled as athletic.

The 3 point shooting was the biggest thing that killed them, along with the aforementioned lack of focus and intensity. Lafayette's top 3 scorers tonight were Lane, #23 and Jenkins - none of whose points came because of athleticism.

Maybe your point could/will be proven but citing this Lafayette team as proof to support that argument doesn't work. They may be a Leximgton team, but not all Lexington teams are athletic.

While I agree with you that Lafayette isn't a great example of an athletic team, they did show the ability to withstand Mercer Co's pressure defenses, and also were able to get in passing lanes and force turnovers. Both are examples of what athletic teams could do against them.

Is TJ Downey still with the team?

Moving on, this type of post, and these comments, are exactly what Mercer needs to hear and read. I would rather them have suffered that type of loss against a team playing that well than beat the Friday night version of Lafayette by double digits. Something needs to rattle their cage before it's too late. They've been a shadow of their previous self the last 9 games. The best example of that was beating West Jess by 44 in December, then by only 4 a few games ago. In fact, they should have lost that game. The thing is, neither of those scores were flukes. The difference was Mercer's attitude and approach. They played hungry early on but, of late, have been playing like they're good enought to just show up and get the win. Talent isn't their issue and won't be against anyone they might face. Attitude and heart is their problem, at least at this point.

Like I said, Lafayette played a great game last night. No question. They shot over 50% from beyond the arc and did an excellent job at controlling the tempo. #23 was the difference maker. For the year, that kid averages 5 PPG and shoots 21% from three. He had 20 last night and hit at least 4 from deep. Ross Jenkins played a solid game, and the attention he drew was greater than his point total. Then Lane's second half 3 point shooting was huge. Also, Lafayette's coach had a solid game plan.

It's up to Mercer where they go from here. The Mercer of November and December will fare just fine. The Mercer of the last 3 weeks or so won't go anywhere.

If Lafayette is clicking on all cylinders, they have talent to win 11th. However, this is true for about 4 other teams in 11th.

Does Madison Central count as an athletic team?

Does LCA count as an athletic team?

A little bit overboard I would say! Mercer is the real deal whether you like it or not. Danville beat LCA,which spanked Lafayette!Teams do have off nights, and the 12th region is pretty good. I think Mercer will be just fine.....Lafayette won on this night.

Funny how you show up when your team wins. Where have you been during the losing streak? Mercer Co is a solid team. They're still the team to beat in the 12th. One could make the same argument about your Generals after getting throttled for the last two weeks. Maybe your focus should shift to worrying about beating Lexington Catholic instead of bashing a team that has only lost once.

You were afraid that they would go to Lex and stink up the place to a team that is comparable to Boyle and Lincon ?

Lafayette is 16-7 vs. a very tough schedule. It's not like Mercer County was upset by a team with no talent.

I forgot that Danville beat LCA by 9, who in turn beat Lafayette by 29. Then, Mercer beat Danville by 22, so I guess that means Mercer is 60 points better than Lafayette. Must mean Lafayette would be in the 11 to 15 range in the 12th region.

Oh, and Mercer and Lincoln beat Madison Central who in turn beat Dunbar. Mercer is clearly better than Dunbar and, since Lincoln is in the 6 - 7 range in the 12th, Dunbar would be mid-level in the 12th region.

For the Dunbar fans out there, obviously I'm not being serious. That just shows how anything can happen on a given night. Also, the position that Mercer would be middle of the pack in the 11th, based on one night's result, is just as flawed.

Only time will tell ...District Region and State are right around the corner.....should Mercer win 12th and beat 11th in first round of State does that validate them ?

Dont see them anywhere close to Dunbar as a team

A lot of people are gonna have their bubbles burst in about 2 weeks- the real season starts now. Support your team and encourage them to play their best. Oh... And keep them off this site!
