CovCath 31 Ryle 6 Scrimmage

Featured Replies

Did he actually tear his ACL? I would assume that a 4-6 week recover time means that he doesn't have to have surgery.

Torn miniscis (SP) scoping next monday, telling him 3-4 weeks after that.

Split backfield is a great formation with the two talented backs they have.

Both are good lead blockers making it hard for a defense to key on one or the

other.Glad to here of the change to the split backfield.

Ryle was a joke. As big as this school is and they showed me nothing. Cov Cath ran just basic stuff for the most part. When will Ryles program get to where it should be?

Ahh, a voice from the distant past. Good to have you back in full form, WeWe.

After his first bad punt, I would have to say that Ryle's punter was rather impressive. Nice job. :thumb:

The first was a shank but he did boom the ball pretty well after that.

24-6 in varsity action. CCH looked solid. Hard to tell how good Ryle is. Their qb went down with a jaw injury on the very first play. Their starting safety had an injury as well plus Vince Murray didn't play at all. They did lay some licks on CCH though.

Look out for Brent Buckley . He cuts well, is a physical runner, and has very good speed. My boy Brandon Brown had a long TD run as well.

Passing game for CCH was "OK." Ryle got a lot of pressure on CCH early forcing tough throws. Plus, CCH seemed to be working on their power running game.

Hard for Ryle's O to get going with the loss of the qb and without Murray.

Good first week of football action.

Hated to read the part about CCH working on the power running game. I have always felt that if CCH just lined up and ran the ball at the Birds, they would have been more successful. But for some reason, they always seemed to want to play the finesse game against the Birds and played right into our hands. Even last year in our game, they'd have some success running the ball and then abandon it for a while trying to run Ellison or passing the ball fairly ineffectively (other than the trick half back pass play). While I realize you need some balance, if I was having some success running the ball, I'd keep doing it until the other team stopped it (if ever). With the hiring of R, my initial response was "great" more finesse. If they are going to go with the power game instead, it is smart coaching and could be problems for the Birds (although we looked pretty good against Beechwood's power running game).

I agree*. Many high school coordinators get away from simple running plays that can be quite successfull at the high school level to achieve a 50/50 mix of run to pass. Each game is different and you have to take what the defense gives you.

* I'll try not to make a habit of agreeing with the Ft. Thomas people too often. :jump:

Put that same * on mine. Sometimes its better to consistently get 3-6 yard gains than to always be going for the big, momemtum swinging 30 yard pass.

I really believe if CovCath can run effectively this season, Josh will have a field day throwing the ball. Last year it was Ellison left, Ellison right, Ellison throwing the ball. If you stopped Ellison you stopped the Colonels. This year I am hoping to see a more balanced offense, so the "D" won't be able to key on one man...... If the Colonels can run like they did against Ryle Saturday, look out!!! CovCath RB's really impressed me with not only their speed (wow Brown can really motor), but with their ability to run over pepole..... Saturday, against a very good Glen Estes team, we shall see if the game against Ryle was just a case of being good against a fair team, or hopefully, a preview of great things to come......

Where is the Glen Este game going to be played.

Im pretty sure its going to be played at CCH... Im not to sure about the time though

I was led to believe it would start Saturday the 12th, at about the same time as the Ryle scrimmage, around 9:00/9:30am, but don't hold me to it.... Anyone know for sure?

Holy cow, I have two CovCath fans agreeing with me in one thread.:ylsuper: What are you guys trying to do: give me a heart attack?

Makes you wonder why Dale doesnt run a Power game with the horses upfront and the speed in the backfield. Sometimes I would just like to see the QB line up under center in a fullhouse backfield. Throw Ryan Ball at FB, Jordan at TB and Josh connor at Wingback and grind it out. But we all know that will never happen...;)
