I appreciate your candor. It reinforces my beliefs that a)this is really what it's about and b)why we shouldn't celebrate ANY non-US history days in public school.

Who decides how holidays are classified? Today's history books have chapters devoted solely to educate the majority about the beliefs of the minority. They will not learn about Ash Wednesday, but they will learn about Ramadan and similar religious holidays and minority celebrations. Why are educators, especially our administrators and the department heads who select which books are used in the classroom, trying to purge our country of the very same ideals that our ancestors died to protect? I am all for diversity but not at the expense of what another person must give up to achieve it.

America history is an easy one. It is to be taught. Not sure why we are debating that.

The American History books my grandchildren are being educated from are not "American History". It's someone's history but it isn't "American" history. I love history and genealogy, and not just my own, my husband and I spend some vacations just visiting local historical societies in a number of states. Those who do not learn from history are bound to repeat it. This still comes down to tolerance and respect, be it in the classroom or athletic fields.
