It is our tax dollars that fund these schools so we should have a say in what goes on in them!

I'm not a fan of telling particular public schools how to operate. If it ruffles enough feathers locally the people can vote the school board off. My guess is they will still take the days off, just call them something else.

That's why I said if it's that important to you. For some the things you mentioned (family, finances, etc.) are more important than the school systems and there's nothing wrong with that. Doesn't change the fact that it's a choice that you're consciously making.

Yes. But they will be the minority. Majority is supposed to rule in this country. Listen to the majority, quit catering to the minority.

Just because you vote someone in doesn't mean they are gonna do what you like or listen to you.....

Here's where the whole "I can't send my kids to private school because of X reason" goes sideways:

 

Finances-lots of parents work 2 or more jobs to make it happen, many forego vacations, new cars, even home ownership. It can be done. It's harder than hell, but it can be done.

Location: Some families drive a great distance to take their kids to a private school. Don't believe me? Read any football thread detailing where the students live and getting upset because those students "belong" to X district. Again, it wouldn't be easy, but it can be done.

 

In the end, a family makes the best choices for their family. If the best choice all around is public school, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. If, thought, what's happening in the schools there don't meet your needs, you most certainly look at what options are out there, and be open to the possibilities that your children being in a school that meets your child's needs, or your standards, may mean some really, really tough decisions.

So those things are (and understandably so) more important to you than the schools. You and your wife are making the conscious choice to live where you do. It's not that you couldn't do it, it's that it isn't worth it to you. Nothing at all wrong with that.
