They won their only district title in 1993. Beat Riverside Christian, Jackson City, and Knott County Central. Knocked off Owsley County in the first round of the regional before losing to M.C. Napier. They do have fifteen district runner-up trophies.

NCC was definitely in it til the end even with not playing their best! Not sure why Hall was taken out after going on his scoring run in the 4th. To me, that was a game changer. JMO.... However, I do agree that the turnovers were crucial.

Back then Cordia was in the 55th but are now in the 53rd. It was always tough for them to get past Knott and Breathitt when they were in the 55th and now they have to deal with Knott and Letcher. Plus occasionally June Buchanan has a good team, as they do this year. Cordia only defeated June Buchanan by 2 points to win the 14th region All A.

Congratulations !!! to the Cordia lions .Cordia is a true 1A school . The school only has a graduation class of 20 to 30 students per year . I don't think they have ever won a district in the KHSAA . I'm very proud of this team . Hope they bring home a State championship Trophy . It would look nice in their trophy case . Go Lions !![/quote

According to the program Cordia is the smallest school in the tourney with enrollment of 97 however, all the teams in the tournament are true 1a teams or they wouldn't be there. I think it would be a good idea to have a stipulation in the all a tournament that any team ineligible for post season play due to khsaa sanctions will not be invited to participate in the All A regional tournament. I'm sure many may disagree but it seems fair to me.

There are not just 1A teams, there are also teams who are 2A. That honestly is what has caused a lot of debate and how it has gone away some from being a true small school tournament like it was originally attended to be, to give the the true small schools a chance at a title.

What started out as an invitational tournament at Dayton HS (I think) back in the 80's has grown into an entity that covers sports teams in softball, baseball, soccer and basketball possibly more. I think now the smallest 120 schools in the state now qualify, but can opt out leaving the door open for some larger schools to enter (could be wrong about that). Irregardless, it is a great stage for many schools who may not have a reasonable chance at going to other state tournaments. The ALL A more importantly provides scholarship opportunities for the students of the schools that participate. I dont think it was enisioned to be as big as it is now, but it is a win-win situation for participating schools and their students. Thx Stan......your the man

I don't think the All A uses the same guidelines as the KHSAA to determine their A classification. They simply take the smallest 131 enrollments in the state, grades 9-12, that choose to participate. So, if any of the 131 on the list decides not to play then number 132 is eligible.

Because a school is a 2A in football or some other KHSAA sanctioned sport has no bearing on the All A membership.

The all A at one time used a certain enrollment number as a guideline as to whom was eligible but with consolidation and growth many schools were becoming too large to qualify. That's why they went to a set number of schools. Football classification has nothing to do with it. Owen County is 2A in KHSAA football, but have always been in the All A basketball tournament except for 2008 when they were about 10 students over the then limit. They are also 1A in XC and track per KHSAA guidelines. Easy to see how it gets confusing.

It matters as far as qualifying as an All A member school.
