Offensive Lines - Who has the horses?

Featured Replies

I've heard the exact same things. They ought to be tough this year.

I'm still worried about only having 2 returning starters on the team...but with Vic at RB...Drew Eckman at FB (who is reported to have gotten much better)...and Will Simmons at WR....it looks to be promising if anything...Duece will add some dangerous depth ....That first game against BG will show the real truth.

I just hope the bigger O-Line 285+ can move and get off the ball, and make adjustments or a small guy(200-225) can use his quick feet and give the big guy troubles more than 50% of the time. But time to time he's going to find himself under the big O guy

I agree with you on the high school level a small and quick guy can be very effective but clearly in the college level you must have big size to play. I remember watching Boyle County play Prestonsburg a couple of years ago while they where in their amazing streak of state titles i believe and i was amazed when i seen they O and D-lines. Most were pretty short and not big at all but had great feet work and quickness out of the stance and off the ball.

I agree, If the tigers are to have several weapons..... they must be used and exploited to the point to bring home a W against BG.. I know the BG camp is strong and numerous.... Lets just have the Tigers show up and play hard.....

Let the chips fall were they may......

If I am not mistaken, the BG QB has a sholder injury that will keep him from playing the X game. This appears to be a significant blow the BG, but I have no knowlege of their bench.

It looks like they have definitely lost their QB and quite likely also their center for the X game. Nevertheless, the biggest strength of this Bowling Green team is their defense. These offensive setbacks by the Purples may help to keep us from losing, but if we can't score against that defense, then we can't win either.

Thanks Ox, I wasnt sure what their defense looked like. You have any specifics on their defense, or perhaps a thread that does?

Just take a look at the 2006 BGP 3A Preview where Bowling Green is ranked #1. Michael "Bulldog" Drake has a great writeup on the Purples with loads of meaty detail. It should be required reading for all St. X. coaches, players, and fans prior to our 8/19 trip to Bowling Green.

Size and weight doesnt mean a thing on the offensive line if they cant and wont hold a block. As simple as that. If a linemen is 6'4 350lbs and is slow off the line and doesnt block the whole play then oh well, get me someone else.

Well, the off. line at TRINITY will be solid this year with 3 returning starters and some seniors that had playing time on last years STATE CHAMPIONSHIP team!

They look bigger and much stronger with working out with Coach Maddox.

It is going to be a great year.

Looks like the right time to weigh in! Rocks O-line will be tough with returning starters Hall, Robey, and Spoelker. All 3 have gotten pre season props in the Cats Pause and Sporting News. Other 2 spots still being fought over. None of these guys are wooly mammoths... Trinity goes with the speed and agility (which seemed to work out OK in 2005). Several are very interchangeable which is a plus too. O-line should be one of the team strengths this year.

It looks like the Rocks will have a solid starting five and some able bodied back-ups this season. The three returnees will start but its still up in the air as to where (except Sam seems a lock at RT). The other two spots will be filled with whoever wins the job among about five Rocks looking to earn the job. It looks like the Rocks will go between 225# to 245# right across the line giving them one of the biggest lines that Trinity has had in a number of years. Looks to be a very good experienced unit.

I think the Bluebirds of Ft. Thomas will have an okay line.

I think that Knox Central's offensive line is one of the strongest around now. Not saying that one of them is any better than the other, but as a whole.. watch out... Those boys are strong. Johnny Campbell, Ryan Powers, Daniel Vaughn.

I heard their sort of weak at the guard position:laugh:

I think it is neat to see the progression (evolution) of the size of players. Even in Kentucky, there will be groups of lineman at the prep level (referring to all five lineman) that will all be larger than major D-1 programs from the 1980s. For schools that can support the amount of people, it is only a matter of time before your average high school lineman will be approaching the 300 lb mark. That is amazing to think about!
