Just because apostles were involved doesnt mean it was the church. Was the "church" even established at that point? I mean the apostles went into restrooms to pee, doesnt mean the toilet was filled with holy water. If the bible meant for people to give all their worldly possessions to the church, it could have said so.

In any event, the point is about giving up wealth. Bernie's positions are the most consistent with these principles.

So where are all the people clamoring for everyone to give all their possessions to the church, if that's what it means.

Bernie's message isn't about charity. Jesus' is.

The apostles were more than involved. The money was brought to them because they were church leaders, not government leaders.

The Bible doesn't call for anyone to give all their worldly possessions to the church.

Put simply, Jesus and the early church pushed generous, sacrificial, and cheerful giving--the kind of giving that comes from the heart and not because you're forced.

Both you and RTS are bending Jesus' message so it sort of coincides with your conservative political thinking. Doesn't work that way.

How am I bending anything?

To whom did the generous people in Acts 4 bring their donations?

I find it very interesting these two are telling anyone about Jesus.......

It's also worth noting that the concepts/ideas of what we call capitalism and socialism didn't exist until the 18/19th centuries and our idea of the so-called modern state until the 17th century. So the question is basically absurd to start with.

I think the most a critic could surmise is that Jesus expressed egalitarian/communitarian ideas that might be anathema to the fiercely individualist or social Darwinist beliefs that are en vogue in our politics and culture now. And perhaps that social conservatives being tied to these economic views is not an organic outcome of belief but likely emerged as a compromise to form the "conservative coalition."

Your anti-government bias is not Gospel-based. To argue that only faith-based communities, and not the government, should administer to the needs of the poor is classist and elitist.

:lol2::no:

You don't pay attention to much.

I only stated that Jesus wasn't a socialist.

This thread is nothing more than Mayfield, Sci Fri and 22p crusade to make America a European country. They will justify anything the left wingers order them to do.

I guess I'll break the bad news to you. It's you and MFF that are doing the bending. You want us and others to believe Jesus was a socialist. That good 'ole Bernie the Socialist is somehow doing God's work. We ain't buying what you're selling.

I said Jesus was a communist (with a little c). He also was apolitical. But, yes, Sanders definitely is the candidate who most embodies the Sermon on the Mount. Christ said: "Blessed are the poor." You and your elitist Pachyderms say: "Cursed are the poor."

I'm dodging nothing, you simply don't understand.

Sure you are dodging. You have done it twice now. Only one more time before the rooster crows.

This quote is exactly why no one takes you seriously. I mean, how could they?

Yet we are the only ones basing our positions on passages from the bible. Ironic. Hard to be believer if you actually read the book I suppose.
