You have some very specific instances, what about the millions of other circumstances where Bernie supports the killing of the baby? You think Jesus would like Bernie for those?

Keep tryin.

I have some very specific instances? Not me, that passage is God talking to Moses. Those are God's very specific instances of when and how one is to be aborted. Spoiler alert: there are many other times in the bible where god commands an abortion or performs one, so the instances are not as specific as shown in just one verse.

To answer your question, I can't really see where jesus would get too fired up for bernie supporting abortion given how many unborn/born children god/jesus killed in the bible, Edit: I edited this part out, thought it might be that the situation described would have personal relevance to some reader and decided best to take it out.

I wouldn't say that someone's faith shouldn't impact all aspects of their life, but I think turning the Bible into a political program is hazardous, at least in the sense that I don't think that's what it was meant for. And I take that away from MayfieldFan's posts here, which is that people will openly vote based on their religious beliefs when it comes to certain issues (e.g. the "social conservatives") but would consider a similarly Biblical justification for supporting Sanders to be absurd. There are plenty of ways of untangling that knot through interpretation and such, but that's my point I guess - are religious beliefs informing political positions or are political positions being rationalized with religious beliefs? That's why I think there should be some caution when intermingling the two.

It's a good question,.... the answer is the latter. And the question, and answer, extend beyond politics and into morality. People create god consistent with their beliefs.

Lots of god/jesus sanctioned baby-killing in the bible.

Numbers 5:11-21New International Version (NIV)

The Test for an Unfaithful Wife

11 Then the Lord said to Moses, 12 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If a man’s wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him 13 so that another man has sexual relations with her, and this is hidden from her husband and her impurity is undetected (since there is no witness against her and she has not been caught in the act), 14 and if feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife and she is impure—or if he is jealous and suspects her even though she is not impure— 15 then he is to take his wife to the priest. He must also take an offering of a tenth of an ephah[a] of barley flour on her behalf. He must not pour olive oil on it or put incense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, a reminder-offering to draw attention to wrongdoing.

16 “‘The priest shall bring her and have her stand before the Lord. 17 Then he shall take some holy water in a clay jar and put some dust from the tabernacle floor into the water. 18 After the priest has had the woman stand before the Lord, he shall loosen her hair and place in her hands the reminder-offering, the grain offering for jealousy, while he himself holds the bitter water that brings a curse. 19 Then the priest shall put the woman under oath and say to her, “If no other man has had sexual relations with you and you have not gone astray and become impure while married to your husband, may this bitter water that brings a curse not harm you. 20 But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have made yourself impure by having sexual relations with a man other than your husband”— 21 here the priest is to put the woman under this curse—“may the Lord cause you to become a curse among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell.

Old Testament, everything changed with Jesus in the New Testament. No, Jesus wouldn't support Bernie or any other politician I can think of IMO. Socialism is not what Jesus was about and certainly not what this country needs.

Jesus most definitely was a communalist/socialist, and, just as significant, so was the movement that sprang from his ministry:

"All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions were his own, but they shared everything they had." --Acts 4:32

Shared, not taxed.

Huge difference.

Shared, not taxed.

So you're saying that governments should not be in the business of helping the less fortunate?

Kinda hard to impose a tax when "no one claimed that any of his possessions were his own." You are implying that the important distinction between what the bible describes and socialism is sharing vs. taxing. Once "all the believers" give up all their possessions, taxing is a moot point. I think it is much more relevant to note that they "gave up all their possessions"

I will agree the passage is in the old testament, but the passage purports to be the very words of god himself. The whole passage is god speaking. So christians can just casually dismiss the very words of god himself by simply saying "old testament, doesn't count?" Talk about picking and choosing lol.

I'm saying Jesus was not a socialist/communist.

I thunk it's most relevant that they gave, and weren't taxed. I also think it's very relevant that they gave to the church and not the government.

Jesus said feed the poor, not steal from others to feed the poor....

Are you saying the New Testament means nothing since we have the Old Testament? Lol. Why do you think He sent His only Son to this earth? It certainly wasn't to be a politician that supports socialism.

I'm saying Jesus was not a socialist/communist.

The evidence is solid that Jesus and those who started the Jesus Movement were communalists. If you have evidence indicating otherwise, I'd like to see it. Otherwise, it simply appears that you are among those who have a tough time reconciling Acts chapter 4 with present-day political philosophy.

I'm still waiting for an intelligent response as to why Caesar (the government) should not use tax money to assist the needy. Such a stance seems to run counter to our Lord's teachings.

Jesus didn't categorically say anything about what his followers should vote for or try to accomplish by means of government. Jesus taught generosity and charity, not government assistance. Now, saying that, I don't have a problem with reasonable government assistance, I do have a problem with Bernie's version of it through socialism.
