But he also said that "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."

John 14:6 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

 

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The bolded shows how you are incapable of reading the bible. He did not say it would be "hard." He said a camel could pass thru the eye of a needle easier. Can a camel pass thru the eye of a needle? Nope. A camel can not do that. So it's more than hard, it is impossible.

 

As to what path I am on, well, I don't believe and I think we should try to make the world we live in a better place. Far too often there is a block of evangelical christians in this country who have aligned themselves with the republicans and take positions on policy that i disagree with. If it helps to point out that these positions are contrary to what's in the book that this block of people supposedly believe in, all the better.

 

You better hope I am right, that there is no god. If there is, he can just look at me and say "you didn't believe, off to hell" You guys believe, supposedly. But you don't follow it. You don't live according to the bible, the bible lives according to you. You don't believe what the bible says, the bible says what you believe.

 

And yet even with this rampant, open, and obvious complete disregard of the bible by christians, we are supposed to all let you guys force your individual religious beliefs upon the rest of us, and our children. Slapping up the ten commandments everywhere. Prayers in schools, and at football games. Allowing government officials to refuse to do their jobs. Denying people basic human rights, such as the right to marry. All in the name of individual beliefs and prejudices, which are attributed to some god in order to justify their imposition on the rest of us.

Save the junior high explainer for your next men's Bible study group. The quest to better understand the historical Jesus doesn't automatically have to be viewed by the faithful as an attack on their faith system, but sadly that's usually the outcome.

 

My takeaway from this discussion is that the Jesus described in the New Testament was apolitical, was a communalist, castigated the rich and embraced the poor. I suspect that if Jesus was with us in person today, he probably wouldn't even be registered to vote and most certainly wouldn't be asked to ring the opening bell on the New York Stock Exchange.
