I am shocked, not surprised, but shocked at how much I think Governor Bevin made the tough right choices in this budget at first glance. On a personal level putting 67% of the billion needed to strengthen KTRS was very unexpected. I expected him to try something but not like this. For social issues, increasing social workers and their pay is greatly needed for mental health alone. Not decreasing the SEEK formula for education is good not great but it keeps things close to even there.

 

Now it is not all rosy, as I think he will get us out of kynect health care and many working poor will suffer. Cutting Preschool funding in half is worrisome. It will be interesting how cutting post secondary education will affect tuition and ultimately student loans, although I agree with the cuts. Right to Work will cause unskilled labor to flourish and shoddy and untimely completion dates for public facilities.

 

I am not a Republican supporter for the most part, but I will give kudos when they are due. They are due in my mind with the budget. He owned the problem and provided hard and well thought out solutions. He did not waste a lot of time blaming predecessors, which is positive in my eyes.

 

I know it will pass the Senate and I doubt Stumbo challenges it too much if at all.

I appreciate you giving the credit, but also providing all the information. I knew a few of those things, but not all.

I was pleasantly surprised. especially as the missus and I are both drawing state pensions.

Bevin is also going to paint the Brent Spence I-75 bridge. At least it will look good when it collapses into the Ohio River.
