Clyde Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 NCC has had a REALLY nice pipeline of talent over the last few years - Geisler, Schulte, and McDonald all playing D1. Weyer going to a HIGH LEVEL D2 program. With Weyer graduating after this season is it now or never for NCC as far as winning the 9th?
Bengal Maniac Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Not sure what they have in the pipeline, but I would doubt it is bare. I believe they will usually be a factor most years to win it, even going forward.

uselessinfo Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 What is different now? Why would anyone think it is now or never? Well I was thinking the same thing the other day that will they be able to replace Weyer and the other seniors. But looking at how some guys stepped up in Weyer absence and how the JV plays and still having Hall, Pangallo who play varsity they may not have the huge drop off. But you figure they lose Weyer, Anderson twins, and Ludwig. The biggest issue may be replacing the size presence which, I would think Wurtz would be looked upon to fill that role.
Clyde Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 Pangollo is contributing at a pretty good D2 program also. Great call. Not sure how I forgot that. Really nice run of talent.
Clyde Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 What is different now? Why would anyone think it is now or never? Is there a Weyer/McDonald/Schulte/Pangallo/etc or a group of them forthcoming?
MentschTrachtGottLacht Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 What is different now? Why would anyone think it is now or never? First and foremost, the lack of a dominant underclassmen (I'd guess) would be the first reason. I know they beat CovCath JV the other day, but I also know there were at least 3 juniors playing in that game for the Breds. Moeves and Hall will be their best players next year, I'd think, and while they are nice (and Moeves can REALLY stroke it), they aren't Drew and Pangallo. Or Weyer. Or Schulte. In typing this, I'm trying to think when was the last time NewCath won the 9th? I think they did when Ronnie was playing (2000 maybe), but have they since? Wow, given their players over the last few years, that is a bit surprising. I'm not sure it is now or never, per se, but I think the window closes a little after this year for sure.
CAP Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I can see why you would think now or never but you have to look at what others are losing as well. NewCath will be fine although they have lost some very good talented players you don't need D-1/D-2 players to win it.
se7ens Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Won it last in 2000 when Ronnie Dawn was a junior. Knocked off by Conner I believe the next year as he had an injury plagued season. Made it to the finals against CovCath in 06 with Kiernan, Gesenhues, Kevin Bueter, Michael Lipscomb, Koehl, Hasson, and Horan. Made it to the finals against Dixie with Giesler, Morse, Hightchew, Schulte, and Michael Bueter in 2011. I know I may be missing some players in there but I think those are the three championship games since 2000.
Don't_Hate_the_Playa Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 (edited) I believe the answer to this question is "yes." As it stands now I don't think NCC has the talent in the pipeline to win the 9th for the foreseeable future (next 3-4 years). I also believe CCH continues to bring in quantity/quality talent and with Ruthsatz coaching they will be tough to beat. Edited January 21, 2016 by Don't_Hate_the_Playa
uselessinfo Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I forgot about Moeves. Nice three guard offense! with Hall and Pangallo.
Voice of Reason Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Is there a Weyer/McDonald/Schulte/Pangallo/etc or a group of them forthcoming? When the question was posed now or never, I wasn't thinking short term (next 2 or 3 years). It sounded like you were thinking the program at NCC was going downhill and they would never have a shot at another championship.

It sounded like you were thinking the program at NCC was going downhill and they would never have a shot at another championship. Gotcha. The "never" part didn't literally mean "never" or "ever." A stud could land in their lap next year or in two years or some 5th grader will be the best player in NKY when he's a Junior. It's more of a question of current near-term pipeline vs NOW relative to CCH or Cooper or....
Lawnboy13 Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 This years sophomore class as some very nice players that can fill it up and run the floor, also So. Brendan Luken adds some nice size to the mix. He goes about 6'4", and hearing he is projected to grow another 2' to 3' inches over the next year. The Frosh class is down compared to the NewCath frosh classes of the last who knows how many years, however I'm told the 7th & 8th graders projected to be on the "hill" in the next year or two will be pretty damn good. The cupboard is not bare on the "hill".
