I almost feel wrong saying this to a Highlands fan, but I agree with you 100% on this subject.

It's okay to make an exception for a good cause.

What you think the players should think and feel and what players are thinking and feeling are two completely different things. I understand that you think a player shouldn't feel any different about winning a state championship in 6 classes than he would feel had he won in 4 classes, but you have to look at it from the player's point of view. Like I said before if we or anyone else were to win state in the new system, that team would still feel a great deal of pride and excitement over winning a state championship, but they would also know that they won it against less competition. There's nothing anyone can do to change that fact, and personally I'm angry that I won't have the chance to compete against the competition that all previous players had.

Pre-6 class system: Who are the traditional powers in 1A? Beechwood and Mayfield , right? Yes, I know there are others including NC. However, Beechwood and Mayfield are in the pre-season discussion EVERY season when the topic of potential state champs is discussed.

 

6 class system: Who are the traditional powers in 1A? That's right. Beechwood and Mayfield. So lets assume that those two ONCE AGAIN make the state finals. Are the winners now supposed to feel that their state championship was "diminished?"

 

Obviously not.

 

 

Have we forgotton NCC and Danville? Two huge powerers. Losing them DOES diminish the competition! No way around that fact.

Pride is relative. And yes, I agree - in any other system than an "all-inclusive" one there is some diminishment of the accomplishment. But like I said, it's relative. If the diluted system iss all you've known, there would be no loss of prestige. But if you're comiing from a system where the competition is more acute, there is going to be a sense that your accomplishment is somewhat lessened.

this thought just occurred to me. For those who feel they should be able to measure themselves against tougher competition, you only have 3 or 4 district games now. Nothing is stopping a 2 A power from scheduling Trinity or Male.

CovCath never won a state championship when there was only 3 classes.

So when they won them with a 4 class system, I guess it did not mean that much. Because they were going against less competition.

I did. That's life. In a few years, kids will know no different, and they will cherish the title they bleed, sweat and cry for just the same. That's what happens with change. I am pretty sure you don't think less of the Beechwood titles because all came after the move from 3 to 4 classes. Or because Danville and Mayfield played up. Same with Cov Cath. Same with Boyle. And so on...
