To much parent involvement is happening all over the state and has been getting worse for the last 5 to 10 years. The real shame is that there are very supportive parents out there, but it is those that act so immature and act as if they know everything and only want what is BEST for THEIR kid that ruins for the whole bunch.

 

Parents are going to do what they feel is best for their kid and it has been this way for a very long time. Get over it and move on.

I see Coach Henley from Holmes getting this job.

I heard this a few months ago but now that he is vice principal I don't put much weight on it. But in March this was a huge topic in covington.

Why would you leave a program that you have a chance at advancing in the State Tournament. Even if it is a mess down there... I would stick out one more year with the studs they have coming back. It could be a bad decision to stay but you would think he could get the kids to play as a team for atleast one last year.

 

Niemi's resignation letter was drawn up at the end of last year with the religious literature distributed.

Good pay, best facilties, less stress. But with promtion he is not leavin.

For those of you who keep saying Henley will be getting the job or is a candidate, you don't know much and your hearing rumors. Henley just received an assistant principal job at Holmes so why would he leave? If he was truly interested in leaving for another school, i dont think he would have accepted the position he has now. Also while it may get frustrating down at Holmes sometimes, he truly does care about those young men. Talent has nothing to do with it.

This is not a new thing when it comes to parents. Coaches have been dealing with it for many years. Get real!

 

Let me say one final thing, don't make coaches out to be right all the time and parents to be the villians, because they are quite a few coaches that don't need to be in the profession.

Yeah, I heard the rumor about Henley, too. I think he would have been a possibility in April or May but not now (but I still heard it again a few days ago).

The problem at Ryle is that too many parents have always had an input. Whenever you have an open practice for parents to attend you are asking for trouble b/c little Johnny runs faster than little Freddy in sprints so why isn't he getting more playing time. Niemi has always been a nice family man but unfortunately if you don't let the team and the parents know who is in charge you end the same way he ended up, watching the last game from the stands while your assistant coaches and parents fuss.

 

 

The problem at Ryle has been going on for years.

 

A year ago a kid that made the team transferred from Ryle to Trinity although his family still lives in Union. This year a senior player quit with only a few games remaining in the season, another player quit during a game, another player quit right before regionals. another player transferred, and many other athletic kids at Ryle refused to play because of the coach.

 

Are all these kids and parents the problem? Year after year, class after class for years!

 

Maybe you have involved parents at Ryle because they have reason to be concerned!
