Is Steven Avery Guilty? Evidence 'Making a Murderer' Didn't Present

Avery had placed several calls to AutoTrader specifically requesting the victim as the person to come out.

Avery met her once wearing only a towel around his waist.

He purchased leg irons and handcuffs 3 weeks prior to the death.

In Dassey’s illegally obtained statement, Dassey stated that he helped Avery moved the RAV4 into the junkyard and that Avery had lifted the hood and removed the battery cable. Even if you believe that the blood in Halbach’s car was planted by the cops (as I do), there was also non-blood DNA evidence on the hood latch. I don’t believe the police would plant — or know to plant — that evidence.

I saw that too and the author used a Reddit poster as his source.

None of that makes Avery guilty of murdering her. Being a perv, possibly, but not of murder.

One point that has me stuck on the BIL is the car she was taking pictures of wasn't his. It was his sister's, who wasn't going to be home nor was her husband supposed to be. He was supposed to be with his mother, but strangely enough Dassey testified he talked to his mother at 5:00, and she was waiting for the BIL to get home so they could go visit his mother. The guy was missing at the time of the murder.

Not to mention the fact there is zero blood inside of the house or garage, yet blood in the car.

I'm close to finished now.

My biggest issues are...

Even if he's guilty, a lot of mistakes were made.

Lenk and Colburn should have never been involved. It's very suspicious that the key was found by Lenk and it was found on the 7th search of the residence after multiple people had already looked there.

The blood vile being tampered with is very suspicious.

Why is there blood in the car, but no finger prints?

Why is there no blood in the house or garage where she was supposedly killed?

Why was the car left on the property when there is a crusher?

The brother in law (Scott) and Bobby Dassey seem very suspicious to me based on some things they said.

He cites Halbach's Oct. 10, 2005 visit to the property owned by Avery's family for a photo shoot for AutoTrader magazine: According to Kratz, Avery allegedly opened his door "just wearing a towel."

"She was creeped out [by him]," Kratz says by phone, later adding by email: "She [went to her employer and] said she would not go back because she was scared of him."

At 8:12 a.m. on Oct. 31, the day Halbach was killed, Kratz says Avery called AutoTrader magazine and asked them to send "that same girl who was here last time." He says that Avery knew Halbach was leery of him, so he allegedly gave his sister's name and number to "trick" Halbach into coming.

"Phone records show three calls from Avery to Teresa's cell phone on Oct. 31," says Kratz. "One at 2:24 [p.m.], and one at 2:35 – both calls Avery uses the *67 feature so Teresa doesn't know it him...both placed before she arrives.

"Then one last call at 4:35 p.m., without the *67 feature. Avery first believes he can simply say she never showed up…so tries to establish the alibi call after she's already been there, hence the 4:35 call. She will never answer of course, so he doesn't need the *67 feature for that last call."

What if she simply showed up, took the photos and left without dealing with him. He thinks she hasn't come and calls again. Just saying, there were holes in the prosecution so there was reasonable doubt.

He said he saw her there, didn't he?

I agree there were holes. Big ones.

I also saw or read a phone transcript where Brendan told his mom that Avery had touched him sexually on more than one occasion.

At this point how much of what Brendan says can we believe? He's not a really reliable witness.

I'm not saying he murdered anyone, but he talks a lot.

I've read online that the blood vile having a hole can easily be explained. I don't know if that is true or not because I didn't really read it from a legit source.

The more I read about it, the more unsure I am about this case. It's definitely odd and I'm glad I wasn't on the jury.

I think it's definitely possible he murdered her. But I also feel like they could have done a much better job during the investigation. The two deputies that were being sued by Avery should have been no where near the investigation.

What is the explanation?

What is the explanation?

I just read that it's not really abnormal to see that. Again I'm not sure if thats accurate.

Ok so I'm a guy who spent 18 yrs in jail for something I didn't do, I'm out and suing for $36M. The first thing I may want to do is figure out a way to not only squander winn I ng $36M bit really I just want to get back in the pin. I think I will murder an innocent young girl. Uhhhh just doesn't make sense. I pray to God that Avery is not that dumb. If he is then he needs put down.

I feel like the seals being broken on the box it was in was as alarming, if not more so.

I agree that's definitely alarming.

Could be something, could be nothing. I think we'd know if it was tampered with if EDTA testing was more reliable.

Again I'm not sure if the guy is guilty or not without seeing the entire trial. Even then I'm not sure I'd be certain.

His girlfriend was in jail and had been for a little while, maybe he got tired of waiting and decided to make a move for this girl. That could be a motive...
