Beechwood has regularly played larger teams over the last 15 years, so why would they be your example???

As a whole, they would be playing teams much, much closer to their own enrollment than the team who set the streak to begin with. Why would that be any less illustrious?

 

The argument could be made that it would be a greater accomplishment.

I don't think it loses any luster at all. Unless they started scheduling a bunch of cupcakes out of district, which I seriously doubt they would do.

^ not simply because of enrollment....teams have shown to be great regardless of enrollment (Beechwood, Danville, and HHS come to mind). they have notouriously played up, if they were not to, and attained the record streak, that would lose some of its luster in my opinion.

For argument's sake, when Trinity won 50 straight games from 1988-91, did that accompishment lack some of the luster it would have had before the classes were expanded in 1975? Was there anyone in the Trinity program who made the comment "This record just doesn't give me the same feeling it would have if we had done it in 1972 when there were just three classes." I highly doubt it....

Have no idea....it's fun to play the devil's advocate when you want to be on the other side of the argument....fact is we were beating St. Xavier at the time, who I believe was bigger, maybe another. I am not a direct advocate of saying that enrollment is #1 to winning. I would rather like to see a stat with the % of boys that play. That's an argument that I would be willing to garner.

 

For example at Trinity if we have 1,440 boys and 175 in the progam, that's 12.2% of the population.....if HHS has 423 and just 12.2% played that would be 52 kids in the program...I bet they have more than that.

With the classes becoming watered down, I say yes. Less competition. It would still be a great challenge and accomplishment for a team to win 51+. But without beating the equivalents to Warren Central, Boone, X, Ballard, Waggener, Fairdale, and Paducah Tilghman type teams from the late 80's and early 90's, it would not be equal.

 

With that, I say 50 will be broken within 5 years.
