Amazing stat from St. Xavier football

Some Tiger fan correct me if I am wrong.

But the losing streak thread got me thinking about who might have the losing streak that is the fewest games of all-time.

St. X's longest losing streak is 4 in 1988. That's pretty impressive!

Is that for their entire existence, or just since '59 or whenever everything was changed around? Either way, that is VERY impressive.

I just looked back on that Louisville football website and that's from 1959 until now. Still pretty darn impressive.

Anyone know prior to 1959???

Rockcastle County's fewest losing streak is at 8. That was set in 1984, the school's worst year, record wise. There was a span of three games that the Rockets lost by a combined of 9 points that year.

I'd have to think that but for the forfeit year in '04 when on on field record was 14-1, its been a long, long time, if ever, that Highlands has lost more than 4 games in a row. We've not had a losing record since '48, when our record was 3-8. Only other years since we started playing football in '15 that we had losing records was '39 (2-8), '32 (3-5-1), '27 (3-6), '22 (2-3), '21 (1-4-1) and '15 (4-5-2). We were 9-5 in '79 but I'm sure we did not lose more than 4 games in a row that year as my younger brother played on that team and would have had to advance into the playoffs by a couple of games making it impossible to have lost 5 in a row and end up with a 9-5 record. So if we can discount '04, its been at least since '48 that we lost 4 games in a row and I'm only surmising that we may have lost 4 in a row that year as our record was 3-8. If some Birds fan with the game by game records can look into the above listed losing record years, perhaps we can find out if we've ever lost 4 games in a row since '15 (again, except for the '04 season).

And I do agree with you X's record is very impressive and don't mean to in any way detract anything from the accolades you have rightly awarded them by my post.

Highlands has had 81 winning seasons (The last 50 in a row since 1955*) and 8 losing seasons.

Their longest losing streak was 8 games back in 1939. Other than that, the longest were 5 in 1927 and 3 in '48, '49, '52 and '67.

Although the losing streaks would have been 7 in '27, 7 in '48, and 6 in '49 if we hadn't played Ludlow those years. ;)

*No, I'm not counting the forfeit season of '04.

Do you have a link?

They started the year 2-4 and then won 7 straight before um..."losing" to Belfry in the Regional finals.

If they knew how to tackle they might have won that game in 79. :D

They knew "how", they just didn't know "where!"

Thx BF for the info. Any idea as to what happened in '39? We must have started off 2-0 and then lost 8 in a row. I want to recall that there was one year that almost the eintire team caught some bug or disease and had to forfeit a bunch of games. Was that the year if you know?

No, they won the first game against Carrolton 24-0. Then they lost to Dayton, Lloyd, Bellevue, Newport, Western Hills, Holmes, Ludlow, and Newport. They won back a little respect to end the season by beating Dixie 33-0 in the last game.

One clue to their struggles was the fact that they started 5 freshmen that season. But that group went on to win the NKAC and (mythical) state title two years later.

Yeah, the 1918 season was cancelled due to a nationwide flu epidemic.
