Score was 31-31 at half. Bulldogs turned it up a notch on D in third quarter, and BB struggled to find the offensive rhythm that it had in first half. Missed free throws also hurt BB.

Another solid game by Mclendon, once again for the third game in a row, Holmes falls behind early. This Holmes team can play some pressure defense. Very impressed with Brossart, as always they are very well coached. Jacob Zai can flat out shoot, also impressed with number 33, Jackson Crawford. I thought Jaiden Green and Brennen Engelman had their best games so far for the Dogs. Both teams will wiln a lot of games. Best of luck to both.

It was also nice meeting Mustang and TAC tonight, thanks for what you do for not only Brossart but high school sports.

How does Holmes look when compared to the rest of the 9th?

 

I haven't seen any team yet so I would not know. However, this is really early and some teams will develop and get better others not as much. As usual, there may be a couple of favorites, but come regional time There will probably be 6-7 teams that can win it with the right draw and matchup.

 

The 9th is always competitive. Many on here thought NCC would win it at least once in the last 5 years, they didn't. No one knew in 2010 this time in the year Newport would win the region over a team everyone thought was a shoo in in Holmes.

 

It would not surprise me at all if a team like NCC did win it this year. The 9th is a very good and competitive region. There are many in the state like this.

I was impressed with how the Bulldogs didn't panic when getting down big early and stayed focused climbing back in it to tie it up going into half time.

 

The early deficit difference came at the hands of Brossart consistently connecting on some big 3's out of the gate before coming back down to earth, along with good patient ball movement finding their open man at the basket.

 

The Bulldogs gave the Mustangs fits with relentless D and never lapsed, or let off the gas.

 

Holmes have a great teamwork ethic and a trusting attentive chemistry with their coaching staff. In the 2nd half they kept that same rhythm that put them back in it, to quickly get on top and stay there.

 

It can't be overstated what an excitable dynamite player McClendon is. He alone is worth the price of admission. Anyone thinking that the Bulldogs might suffer with the absence of Bolden should think again because this kid doesn't miss a beat and more than picks up where Bolden left off. With that said he can't do it all alone and is more than happy to involve the rest of the team to get it done who are quite capable of doing so.

 

Guys like McClendon and Moore also have a dependable cool hand from the charity stripe. I didn't catch the final free throw stats, but I don't recall any problems there.

 

In just a few days since the St. Henry game I've seen their confidence and fine tuning grow. They even demonstrated in this game a bit more of a perimeter shooting presence that hints of a more complete game to come.

 

Fun game to watch, and it's fun to watch the Dogs believe in themselves.

McClendon is the real deal. Best player I've seen play this year. He came into the game 2-13 from behind the arc but I think hit both shots he took last night. He has a pretty stroke and not sure where the 2-13 came from. Holmes is shooting 80% as a team from the charity stripe after 3 games. That will win you some ball games. Holmes played well as a team and the speed and defense was impressive. As someone mentioned, if someone other than McClendon hits double digits they will win. 3 others got there last night.

Brossart came out hot, but missed FT's and too many turnovers doomed them. They couldn't get back into their offensive flow. Listerman did a great job adjusting after Brossart took 3 charges early in the game. You could tell the Holmes players had to adjust their shots due to the help defense.

Great having the in-between webcast chat with Walter last night. Good to see a youngster so involved in promoting the local kids and getting the exposure that could help them land future playing options. Great to meet Allsport71 as well. Wonderful place to watch a game, especially from press row. Holmes need more fans to come out and watch their team, they are fun to watch.
