Plan to level the playing field in Kentucky

Featured Replies

Maybe I have too much time on my hands, but I know that Colorado is going to try a format similar to this one starting in 2016, minus shifting the power schools to a national tournament. If you are fine with the Belfry's, Bowling Greens, Mayfields, Highlands, Male, ST X, and Trinity dominating every year, then the status quo will do.

How about you just work to improve our program to beat them?

Belfry is the prime example.

Central ruled 3A for 5 years and beat Belfry 4 straight times. Belfry evolved their program, took their feeder system to the next level, tweaked their philosophy, scheduled tougher teams, and improved their team speed.

Its not just about them , lets make the teams in this state more competitive with each other.

No, let's have, not all (some just don't have resources) but A TON of schools look at themselves in the mirror and really ask, "Are we willing to do what the top teams are doing to win?" That doesn't start at the high school level. That is having qualified adults coaching young kids the proper way to play a school's system. It takes them not playing favorites or their best 13 and actually developing talent over the course of 3rd through 8th grade. That is how you balance the field. You create your talent base. Too many communities don't want to do that.

I just proposed something out of the box, why not?

if it makes sense to other states. Why not create dream matchups during the regular season based on RPI seedings. Just ideas fellas, lets have thin skins here. I know that nobody likes change.

Vertical alignment is a big part of it. The bolded is a question for the admin to answer.

It is also a question for communities. People love to complain, but they don't love to blow a whistle 3 to 4 nights a week from the end of July through the end of October.

Exactly. LC got running clocked this weekend and I'd rather that happen again next year than win without Belfry playing.

The problem with any type of super class is that there will be six new teams take their place and win all the championships. Then we'd complain about Russellville, Danville, Elizabethtown, Johnson Central, Southwestern, and Manual winning all the titles.

I commend you for thinking outside of the box but I'm not sure this is the best method for approaching the issue.

Ummm...no, they got beat before Belfry had to play them again! LOL. Belfry just did what they always do...get to the finals. All that other stuff sounds GREAT though. :)

Who played last year in the Finals and what was the score?:thumb:

Central didnt reach the Finals this year, but they weren't chopped liver. Beat Boyle County and St. X. The Yellowjackets are still playing at a Championship level...but Belfry is playing even higher right now.

I would agree IF we got to see Belfry against Central and Belfry beats them. Your post was about what they did to overcome Central...which was NOTHING. So it's not based on what Belfry did or didn't do...they do what they always do. None of that other stuff played a factor as it was never an issue. ALL that stuff was and is already in place. :)

Belfry beat Central last year in the 3A Finals..... the entire point of what i was saying HAHA

Indeed...I was under the impression we were all talking about THIS season. Carry on.

This is like when people complain about a kid in pee wee being to good it's not fair. Dumb

So they are doing the same thing, except different. :lol2:

Honestly, I'd be a bit curious about applying a RPI index to determine classes within the state. That would certainly increase competition within each class, but then you run the risk of treating smaller schools unfairly. Should Mayfield or DeSales have been forced to play in the same class as Male or Trinity just because they are powerful in their class? Enrollment isn't the end-all and be-all, but it is a factor. That's see how that system works out in Colorado before copying it here. The solution to one 'problem' shouldn't create a dozen more.

The part that most people, myself included, find ridiculous is shipping off those schools that do well to a 'National Tournament'. Completely and utterly unfeasible between the issues of travel time, the sheer cost and where that money would come from, who the governing body would be, and why any state or school would sign up for such a boondoggle. If you have a method to address those problems then I'm all ears.

So let's punish some teams for being too good. If being good was simply related to what was in the local water, then I get the need to do something. But bottom line is those teams that "dominate" have just done a great job at building programs.

This. And to my way of thinking, it makes it that much sweeter when one of the poor "have-nots" has a banner year and comes home with rings.
