Phelps 63 Piarist School 5

Featured Replies

I do believe every member school in the Association has to field either a boys or girls basketball team or both - excluding the Ky school for the blind who participates in boys & girls track & wrestling only.

BUT, I have been wrong before & could be wrong on this point.

Correction!

Add Valor Traditional from Louisville to the list of no basketball teams.

So out of 280 member schools, I can only find 2 that dont play basketball.

district game. ridiculous score, nonetheless.

Where's all the commotion on this score from BGP, and the twitter universe?? - These scores will continue to happen, it's just a fact of life.

Kudos to the young man at Piarist who play the game because they love it, and continue to stick with it. It will help them be successful long after the ball stops bouncing for them.

This one was 39-1 at the half and 24-4 in the 2nd half.

On the upside, looks like Piarist made some half time adjustments resulting in a better second half showing. :thumb:

The only ones to blame for this is Piarist. You cant penalize a team or kid for competing and for the record Pikeville and Phelps could have likely held them scoreless but let them score by driving a wide open lane (they still struggled to score). Pikeville had to play them as they are district opponent, Phelps was competitive last season, and the 15th Region is one of the weakest in the state.

If you know you are playing kids that are very young and not very talented, one might consider a different schedule or playing some top middle school teams to create a competitive game. I am all for kids competing, but one must be realistic as well. If they played middle school or freshman teams the games may be more competitive and their athletes might get more out of the sport (my opinion). So why do they insist on competing in the KHSAA? I addressed this in a previous post with my opinion on the matter.

I just wish people would stop with the poor little Piarist angle. Their administration knows they have never beat a 15th Region opponent, but still creates the schedule.

On the flip side, perhaps the kids enjoy the experience of traveling around to all the schools and seeing the other teams. Nonetheless, lets not feel sorry for them. This is part of athletics and there is plenty to learn from either a win or a loss that goes beyond sports.

If you read my article you'll see that I'm not taking the poor Piarist angle. I'm taking the poor Piarist kids angle. These games are bad for everyone involved, including the winning teams.

Here are a few scores of some games this season:

Kentucky 111 KY State 58

Georgetown College 114 IU Southeast 58

Georgetown College 112 Morthland College 59

Georgetown College 121 Chillicothe 59

Campbellsville College 121 Chillicothe 52

UPike 113 Ohio-Southeast 45

UPike 118 OSU Mansfield 53

Spurs 119 76ers 68

There is no solution, at any level. If it is a competition, there will be good and bad teams. Check out the KHSAA football playoff scores, especially weeks 1 & 2.

College and professional basketball are way different.

And it's one thing to be a bad team...it's another thing to only be able to manage 5 points in a high school varsity game.
