Mike Flynn new coach at Bourbon Co

Featured Replies

When Ashland hired Flynn he was considered an uptempo coach. Check out his Holmes teams. He did what was necessary for him to win at Ashland. Regradless of what most think the Tomcats were not overly athletic during his tenure. If he had tried to run with Rose Hill during the OJ days Ashland would have one less regional title.

I totally agree RickyP.

Ashland not nearly as good the past few years as the self-named Tomcat Nation would like to believe.

Flynn will now have a chance to do what not other coach in KY history has done. Win four region titles in four different regions.

Grab some old Holmes tapes if you want to see Flynn running and gunning. I'm sure his teams were a bit more athletic while in Covington but we had to use 10 guys to simulate their full court defense.

It is Mr. Huber.

Not sure if it is or not. You know with age I am now lucky just to remember the last name...

Flynn is a good coach but the one thing I remember while he was at Holmes was in 90 he took a team that was loaded with talent to state. A team that was primarily juniors and made it to the championship game, losing to Fairdale I think.? The only thing is he came back in 91 with those juniors now seniors and didnt even make it out of the region. Very Sad.

True.

They didn't exactly flame out. They lost to Holy Cross in double overtime, in the finals. If I am not mistaken that Holy Cross team made it Final Four at the Sweet 16.

Coach Flynn is a good man, a conscientious basketball coach, a tireless worker, and a student of the game.

Given the chance, he will be an asset to Bourbon County High School and to the 10th Region.

He has many ties remaining here from his previous tenure in the 9th Region and is well respected by his peers in Northern Kentucky.

I firmly believe that he will do whatever he thinks it takes to win, be it slow down or run-gun-and have fun.

Hopefully the good folks at Bourbon County will have confidence in him to develop their program without making unreasonable demands of him.

You know what they say about making Chicken Salad.

It's not magic. It requires long hours and hard work.

Coach Flynn will hold up his end of the bargain.

Best of Luck To Him and the Bourbon County Colonels!!!!!

I wish for the Ashland Tomcats someone who can make all of the people happy all of the time - Good Luck!

Slow day at the office?

PS - I agree with the point - it is not possible to satisfy all of the fans at Ashland - or any other school, for that matter.

Actually, it's been rather swift here (no pun intended)

Look, I'm not ragging on Ashland, and frankly as a RH partisan, I think that if you go back and look at RickyP and others posts from RH that we thought that Flynn has done a good job. It was the Ashland folks who were on this forum calling for his head. I sincerely hope that the next guy, whomever he may be, gets a fair shake. I would hate to walk into that job if I were a candidate simply because I think it is a no win situation. I think that Ashland will have limited success in context to what some Ashland fans consider success. I think that is highly doubtful that there are many state championships in the near future, and regional and even district championships are suspect. I wish them luck!

Actually, it's been rather swift here (no pun intended)
That's pretty good. I liked the pun, unitended as it was.
I agree completely. The Rose Hill faithful have been pretty complimentary of the job Flynn has done.

It was the Ashland folks who were on this forum calling for his head.
Well, I think it would be fair to say that the Ashland fans are on both sides of this issue. I know several have been critical of Flynn, for a variety of reasons. They certainly have that right, and even though I didn't agree with them, I respect their right to see things as they did. There has also been a contingent of Ashland fans on this site that have been very supportive of Flynn, and I am one of them. I don't think Flynn is the greatest coach to ever wear a whistle, but I don't think you could ask for a better person to represent your school. Did he cause some of his own problems? Probably (although I don't personally know this to be true). I still say "probably" because that statement is almost universally true of all coaches - in all sports - at all levels.

I sincerely hope that the next guy, whomever he may be, gets a fair shake.
I feel confident in saying that the next coach will get a "fair shake". Ashland has (historically speaking) an excellent track record of giving coaches a long leash. I don't see that changing any time soon.

For what it's worth, I doubt that anyone applying for the position does so with the expectation that winning isn't expected.

I think that would be true at any school (with a few exceptions).

I didn't really take your post as "ragging on Ashland". I think that when this day came (as it inevitably would), there was bound to be some good natured kidding. That is the vein that I see most of the posts from around the 16th region to be in - yours included.

Frances

I dont think there will be many applications. I think they have a short list of what they consider to be candidates and will hire someone by the end of next week.

Hey Cubster, as a Rose Hill fan I hope they hire Tubby Smith. :D
