They didn't exactly flame out. They lost to Holy Cross in double overtime, in the finals. If I am not mistaken that Holy Cross team made it Final Four at the Sweet 16.

 

You are correct. The Holy Cross team that beat a great Holmes team in 91 lost in the semi-finals to Lex. Tates Creek. That Tates Creek team had current Western Ky Coach, Darrin Horn, on it.

Flynn knows how to run and gun. In '90 Boyd Co. won the 16th by rotating 10 players and pressing teams as they "got off of the bus", as they say. Flynn's Holmes' team subbed on every whistle, rotated 11 players and eventually wore B.C. down on their way to the state finals. A fine coach and a fine person.

Flynn was a lot better coach at Ashland than many realize, and leaves some mighty big shoes to fill. I can't believe the flak he caught from some Ashland fans that are stuck in the past. I wish him well in his new school.

 

There are very few people Ashland will be able to hire that will be able to make much of an impact in the short term.
