Last week's game showed that Beechwood can be beaten? Huh?? They won, and gave up only 9 points that they basically set up themselves and in a regional final. And neutralizing Stringer? I would love to hear more about that. And...... I am missing the 4th TD that BW rattled off against LHC.

Just out of curiosity what run oriented team has Beechwood struggled with? One team has scored more than 20 points against them, and even they didn't dominate on the ground and had a threat to pass. New Cath had one long run and nothing much else. I will wait.

 

Covcath's 349 yards on the ground was pretty dominating, and fair to say BW struggled against in this loss.

Sorry to worry, but Russellville has the number 1 rushing attack in the state at 354 yards per game. Two outstanding backs Bigbee avg. 12 yards per carry, and Jones at 13.5 yards per carry. Both of these guys can and do break the long one behind an outstanding line that opens gaping holes. BW will have their hands full and without Stringer on defense there could be serious problems. Offensively, we may see another HC shutting down our rushing game and forcing Fiegler to throw more than Rash would like. Love our passing game, but another rain forecast could become problematic. Finally, the bus ride and crazy playing field add up to a huge homefield advantage. Cantrall had BW rated 20 pts higher than Russellville last week. Cannot buy that and see this a squeaker with Russellville winning the ride to BG.

All very good points. Could certainly use Ethans speed and athleticism on the edge. Is there more rain coming? Still have a hard time believing a one dimensional offense can beat BW, but should be fun. If the BW line can occupy blockers and keep Slusher free to roam he could cause havoc.

Visitors from Ft. Mitchell would be wise to get there early and visit Roy's BBQ. First-rate. Was looking over the menu and immediately spotted the pulled pork sandwich (the hot sauce is perfect and won't burn you) and onion rings. Then I noticed the fried okra and rolled with some of that as well. Cost a grand total of 10 bucks and change including drink. Left a $3 tip because I felt I got off easy.

They gave up 9 points and had a marginal lead at halftime on what is a pretty ordinary HC team compared to some of the other Cougar teams I've seen in the past decade.

 

Beechwood may win, but Russellville's no slouch. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Panthers win.

Jim Schue, my comments above were based on...1) BW was not beaten, so I do not understand the comment, "showed that they can be beaten". 2) Stringer is already neutralized and 3) BW only scored 3 TDs against LHC. How could they rattle off 4? But yes, this game could go either way. Both teams are formidable.

Beechwood is clearly the favorite and has arguably the longest ride in the state on Black Friday. I think Russellville will be encouraged by last weeks Beechwood score. I will go with my WKY bias and say Russellville 28. Beechwood 27

 

Beechwood had two road trips this year of about 3 hours. They have experienced the road trip twice and got wins over solid opponents both times. The drive will not be a factor in the game.

Have these teams ever played before?

Beechwood will not take this game lightly. As has been the case many times this year....if the BW line can get some push offensively they will be tough to handle. Defensively....it comes down to the line getting off blocks and linebackers filling holes. This should be each teams toughest test this year. Hope for good weather. Im taking the WOOD in a close one.

I was excited about the outcome of the Holy Cross game for Beechwood, they got a dose of 8 men in the box defense, playing their worst ever with a final turnover margin of 4 to LHC 0, and the beechwood defense was VICIOUS. good to know BW can rely on their defense as well to win games in the future. this is the kind of adversity that I was glad to see happen with an opponent I knew BW could beat to better prepare them and give them a chip on their shoulder for the rest of the playoffs. BW got much better that night, ignore the score, and knowing Noel Rash, this week will be extremely intense and BW will come Friday night better prepared. Beechwood wins and breaks the drought 35-21.
