Marco Rubio -- The Chosen One

It seems Rubio troubles the Left more than any other candidate. I think the Left sees him as the one that can beat Hillary.

This is what I'm talking about. People are considering or actually backing Rubio on the basis of a belief that he would be the best candidate to take down Hillary. Based on what? Can't be his 12.4% national polling. I'm trying to pin down the basis of this belief.

You tell me why he worries you Lefties.

I'm a conservative. I agree with his views on most issues.

Rubio appears to be an attractive candidate, but I'm not sure he's the best choice for Republicans. Sort of reminds me of the Dems' attraction with Kerry in '04. Will Rubio be able to rally the GOP base like Romney did in '12? To beat Hillary, the GOP candidate is going to have to approximate Romney's numbers in '12, then hope that millions of people who voted for Obama in '08 and '12 stay home on election day.

You have too much faith in Hillary. Many who voted for Obama the last two times will not vote for Hillary. She will have a very hard time getting the younger vote. They will view her as the old white lady. Rubio can get the younger vote as well as the Latinio vote.

Lots of BGP Republicans are now endorsing Marco Rubio for president. It's not because Rubio's views necessarily coincide with their own. Rather, they see Rubio as having the best shot to topple Hillary a year from now.

But wait a minute. Romney was the "electable" candidate in '12 and he went down to defeat. Same with McCain in '08. Same with Kerry in '04.

Isn't jumping aboard the "electable" bandwagon a losing strategy for Republicans? Shouldn't Bluegrass Republicans be paying more attention to Cruz and native son Paul? Your thoughts.

What views/policies of his do you believe the BGP republicans do not agree with him?

He's already the Dems worst nightmare as an opponent for Hillary. Particularly with him playing the "I'm the future" card. He's already been alluding to Hillary's age putting her in the "been there, done that" past. That will be very appealing to the youth that come out.

In past elections, your analysis would be valid. But, alas, this race is different. More than 46 percent of all Republicans are supporting either Carson or Trump. This high figure really is a protest vote against the current lineup of professional GOP politicians running for president, and GOP members of Congress as well.

Republicans will have a harder time of getting out the vote than the Democrats after the primary dust settles. The gap separating the tea party types and the establishment crowd is wider than many realize.

Then why are the Dems so worried?

Hillary will get the vote out on the R side, don't underestimate that. She'll bring them out in more numbers than same sex marriage did.

The most recent realclearpolitics.com average of national polling:

Trump 24.6

Carson 21.8

Rubio 12.4

Cruz 11.0

Bush 5.4

I know a lot of BGP Republicans think Rubio will be the party choice, but he still has a long way to go if he's only the top choice of 1 in 8 Republicans.

I really dislike looking at polls or averages that don't add up to 100%.

I guess other or undecided actually leads with 24.8

Polls will look a lot different as the field narrows . I like Rubio because he agrees with me on several issues . Trump is an arrogant blow hard . Dr Carson doesn't have any political experience ( I think you need some both to win and govern) and Cruz would have so little chance to win . The natl media despises him. Now Paul ? I support him but he cant build a winning coalition either . I like Rubio's youth combined with experience . Very articulate and intelligent . He had some troublesome back n forths on immigration but no candidate is perfect . Tad more honest than Hillary . Just a smidge .

Rubio has many things going for him. He is young, intelligent, articulate, well versed in foreign policy, he's from Florida (a very important state), he isaid a Latino son of immigrants (which will attract voters the Republicans normally do not get) and he is not as jaded as a lot of politicians are. His main 'negative' is that he is a first term Senator, but we all know that doesn't keep you out of the White House.

Hillary's main advantage is that her last name is Clinton.

Cruz reminds me of the little boy who if he can't have his way in a game takes his ball and runs home ,so that the game can't be played . I still could support Kasich , if he is the GOP nominee .

You hit on why the left worries about Rubio, especially the underlined, vs Hillary.
