November 7, 201510 yr Police official: Boy targeted because of father's gang ties, lured into alley and executed Nine-year-old Tyshawn Lee was targeted because of his father's gang ties, lured into a South Side alley Monday afternoon and executed, Chicago police officials said Thursday. Speaking at the edge of the alley where Tyshawn was shot multiple times, Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy called the slaying "probably the most abhorrent, cowardly, unfathomable crime" he had seen in his 35 years in law enforcement. McCarthy said police believe Tyshawn was killed because of his father's gang ties and a recent series of shootings between rival gangs. Law enforcement sources have told the Chicago Tribune that the bloody conflict involves rival factions of two of Chicago's oldest gangs — the Gangster Disciples and the Black P Stones. Police believe the Terror Dome faction of the Black P Stones targeted Pierre Stokes' son because his father, a convicted felon, reputedly belongs to the Gangster Disciples' Killa Ward faction. Tyshawn, a fourth-grader at Joplin Elementary School who loved to play basketball, was walking to his grandmother's house Monday afternoon when police said he was lured to the alley in the 8000 block of South Damen Avenue and shot repeatedly. A basketball he always carried with him was found nearby. I really hope there is a "Special" place in hell for people that do things like this.
November 7, 201510 yr I think its time we go back to applying justice the way they did in the American west. We need lawman like Wyatt Earp. Eliminate anybody wearing gang colors. I'm not sure what else would work at this point.
November 7, 201510 yr Author The bad thing is, I think you are right. It is going to take something dramatic to take back cities like this from the criminals.
November 7, 201510 yr This is the topic that needs to make a majority of the board. Gang violence is the cause for a majority of the violence in this country. But yet we harp on a few crazy people . Someone , somewhere has to have the guts to crush these street gangs. Cities like Chicago have portions of their city controlled by gangs in a city like Detroit they control more than half the city. This is the one key issue if solved or dented has a dramatic impact on all the other socioeconomic issues I've discussed on here.

November 7, 201510 yr Huge Issue and no easy answers I just wouldn't want to be a cop in some of these neighborhoods. I did volunteer work in Detroit and it's like another country.
November 7, 201510 yr Author They have do mitch trouble finding people to be police officers in Detroit that INS and Border Patrol are used to supplement local law enforcement and actually take calls.
November 7, 201510 yr Solving the gang issue means the politicians and media will have to support the police. It will be a long, hard road with many mistakes by the police (nature of the beast). I would also like to see a breakdown of gang affiliation by race. In other words, a lot of those mistakes are going to be at the expense of minorities. Is that really going to happen? All of us living safely in the burbs need to consider all of the collateral damage of not supporting law enforcement. These are high times for criminals.

The public is going to have to decide if they want their cities ruled by gangs or support the police. Sadly, they seem to have decided on the former.
