This is just my opinion, but I saw him tweet that UK was coming to watch the game earlier in the week. Trying to impress?

Maybe so, but if his play is important in the playoffs and I am in charge I take his helmet and he sits. If UK wants to see more of him they can have all the game films.

I know the Tates Creek game didn't really mean anything, but I think it was an embarrassing loss when you look at the fact that the difference in the game was Tates Creek's passing attack . The Johnson central game was a defense of struggle, but I think one would have to question some of the coaching decisions . Welcome to the site Eightdigits. But to answer your question. Neither of Ashlands two losses are what I would consider embarrassing.

I think Ashland holds Bourbon in check and gets up by 3 or 4 scores, then Bourbon starts slinging the ball around and plays catch up, then Baker breaks off one or two more to ice the game late.

Ashland D has given up 166 or 16.6 points per game.

Rain may cause Ashland some problems. They were very poor handling the ball against Boyd. Just a random thought.

Ashland's closest games (minus JC), have come with teams that throw the ball effeciently. Bourbon Co does just that. The key to hanging with Ashland is a mix of run and pass, but still keeping Ashland's offense, also known as Q, off the field. Kurtlen Brown showed last week that he is very capable of handling things when needed though. I think that with out a passing game, as they get deeper into the playoffs, the Tomcats need to turn those two into a two headed monster. Before last weeks game when Brown carried the ball for 20+ times in the absence of Baker, the most carries he had in a game was 9. Now, I think Baker needs to get the bulk of the touches, his numbers back that up. But, I think with no passing game, for Ashland to get to over the Matney hump, they need to go with a 50/30/10/10 percentage among Baker/Brown/Dowdy/Roberts when it comes to rushing. Especially this week, as BC has struggled heavily against the run all year. Its hard enough just containing baker with one or two guys keying on him. If you start having to account for Brown between the tackles and Roberts up the middle, Ashland nearly doesnt need any more than a ground game.

 

You cant load the box because Baker can stretch you out without a formation that does so, so you have to play a ballanced defense. Ashland has too many weapons to not use them. Its too late to develop a passing attack. So why not use the entire stable of back you have? All of this is in reference to IF Baker is at 100%.

 

Defensively, O'Bryan is a game changer and without him, Ashland isnt nearly as versatile defensively.

So I believe that Baker and O'Bryan will make or break the Tomcats post season run.

Ashland needs to get back on track and take care of business. When I played, we were the district champs, thought that was good enough (7-1 going into the last two games of the season). Lost our last home game (senior night) and then the first round of the playoffs. It sucked. That's the last thing I want for this Tomcat group. They have come so far and have so much talent, that it would be a shame for them to go out like that. This team has the potential to go a long way. The only think that really hurst us is our passing defense. We are a totally different team with Baker back there. If he is 100%, that will sure up any doubt about our secondary. Our run defense has proven itself time and again. Hopefully O'Brian is healthy enough to be the dominating force he is. All that being said, if we take care of our secondary and have a punishing rushing game, we will be fine. Brown was a monster Friday, ran through everybody. I wonder about a wishbone attack with Roberts, Brown and Baker... Wonder what that would look like? Just a thought.

The only thing is, is, there is no tomorrow. I'd use whatever it takes to get the job done. Glad to hear they are utilizing all their assets.

The wish bone takes a long time to be good at and takes a great offensive line which sounds like Ashland may not have if they are looking to run jumbo package

Ashland's line is one of their strengths. They have been blowing holes open for Baker and company all year long. Their trap blocking, on film, is some of the best I've ever seen.
