I've read all of this thread and all of the girl that wouldn't leave the classroom thread and came to the conclusion a lot of bgp'ers have an axe to grind with the police or people of authority. I firmly believe this is a lot of what's wrong with the country today. Use common sense , quit making excuses and do what authority figures tell you and we aren't reading threads like this.

Funny, reading those same threads I've come to the conclusion that a ton of people will never question the actions of those in authority even when it's obvious they acted well beyond their authority or in excess.

Police have to use split second reaction and I don't think they have to be shot or in this case bitten before they take the situation in control. Several said use pepper spray, well that would be fine if that's all I'm carrying and could grab it in a split second like he did his pistol. I guess I'm wrong about how you should act around a police officer.

Most officers have the spray on their belt and easy to get to. At least the officers I know.

If this officer was NOT armed, would his approach have been different? Rather than preparing to pull his weapon, might he have taken the approach one of us might have taken to back away from the door? Why was it necessary that he have his person two feet from the door to advise them their car door was open?

 

I wouldn't have opened the door regardless who he told me he was unless he backed up.

In fairness, the video has been edited from when he knocks until the dog runs out. He may have been back and when he heard the door opening stepped forward. Not sure. Owners could have said I'm coming. A number of things could have happened.

But why would he? That's what I'm confused about. If my car door is open in my driveway, it's on my property and I may want it open for a reason. I don't need a police officer rolling up to tell me my business.
