I have a rules question. Two times the kicker was hit on a PAT and a flag was thrown. The officials did not give Grant the option to rekick or go for two. Instead they forced them to take the penalty on the KO. This is not my understanding of the rule but I'm not an official

The question I have is were both kicks good? If they were I wonder if the coach said they'd take it on the kickoff.

No both kicks were missed. After the first one, Grant sent their team back out there to go for 2 instead and the refs came over and told the coaches that it must be enforced on the kickoff. The second time it was almost as if Dixie roughed the kicker on purpose so Grant wouldn't have tied it up in the 4th. Both times the officials were ignorant of the rules and told Grant that it had to be enforced on the kickoff.

There were more than a few questionable calls that effected momentum, but thankfully, not the outcome. Congrats to the Colonels on the win and to the Braves who fought til the end. Witnessed a lot of good sportsmanship throughout the course of this contest: players helping each other up, helmet and back taps, minimal chippyness!

 

At one point when the scoreboard clock went south at the end of the 3rd quarter, the players of both teams on the field orchestrated a cheer contest between each others sidelines and fans during a referee time out to sort out the clock.

 

Dixie made the plays necessary to preserve the W after being up by 14 in the first half. Hats off to Dixe junior RB Jose Torres who gained most of his 152 game leading rushing yards outside the tackles...

This happened on a FG attempt at Ryle V. Cooper. Cooper ruoghed the kicker. Penalty resulted in a 1st down. FG was good, Ryle coach decided to take the points off the board and go for the TD. Turned out in his favor as Ryle scored. I'm thinking out loud, is it possible that a PAT is a dead ball type of play? I'm embarrassed to ask this question, but isn't a PAT an un-timed down?

Good question. I'd like to know also. Maybe a PAT is considered a dead ball foul since as soon as the ball is kicked the play is blown dead by the officials, so that may be the reason. Good question Fletch. I see it as being dead ball foul because like I said as soon as the ball is kicked the ref blows the whistle to end contact and if the kicker is run into AFTER the ball is kicked and NOT blocked, then the play is over.

Ryle did the same against Conner last night on a FG.

 

I checked. Doesn't matter if XP or FG. Should have been given the option to move the ball half the distance and take another play.

 

I can't IMAGINE an official would let a defender negate a point by roughing a kicker and forcing them to take it on the kickoff.

I wouldn't think the officals would either however the first one was like ok it happens but the 2nd one just looked like it was done on purpose. Didnt seem like there was any intention to miss the kicker.

Good game for Grant though, they had there chance to win it but couldn't hammer it home. Dixie held on and there running back had a nice game. Looked almost like a pin ball out there if only Grant would of wrapped him up. Dixie is obviously down this year but was still a nice showing by Grant to keep it close.

I know Grant Co. lost, but they sure made this a lot closer than I expected, so congrats to them on the solid performance.

Sounds like the blown rules call May have affected the outcome.
