Do records of Freshman and JV games provide a forecast of future results?

 

No not really. So how do frosh and jv stats lead you to provide future results? Interested to hear how you answer this before I go any further.

Many factors play into the win/loss records between the freshmen year and Senior/Varsity year. The schedule you play. The players development (their growth and size). How hard they work. Family transfers - who moves out of the district and who moves in. The number of guys that play. Just some I can think of. I am sure there are others.

 

I just was interested in seeing the data on how each class preformed to see if there were any relevance. Because it is impossible to filter the data based on the competition being strong or week each season, the records by themselves can be questionable.

 

However when you look at freshmen class of 2010 going 10 win and 0 loss record and then their Junior year going 7 and 2 losing only to Moller and La Salle you would think they would have won State but lost to Collins and Elder there senior year.

 

The Freshmen class of 2012 had a record of 6 and 3 losing to Trinity, Beechwood and Ryle. Then their Junior year they have a 1 and 5 record with losses to Cambell Co, CCH, Trinity and two Ohio team. Before this season would you anticipate a current record of 2 and 5? I am not sure but it does provide a concern.

 

I do not feel the records are always going to tell you future results but they are one interesting point to review.

I will never make my children stay in a sport where they feel uncomfortable. That isn't the only reason he isn't playing but it is just one of many reasons. Not on here to fight with anyone however JV should be for the less fortunate who get no playing time is all I am saying.

 

This is not daddy ball where everyone gets to play and goes home with a trophy. We are trying to develop the next group of kids and help them grow into varsity players.

Freshmen games are way more exciting, the top players(freshmen) are actually playing unlike JV because the most talented guys who are then sophomores will be playing Varsity, most of your backups are playing jv but there's always a few exceptions esp at qb where the second team guy might be behind a senior & gets valuable snaps playing jv as a soph or junior, just my opinion

Here is the flaw in your analysis. The freshman class of 2012 had a similar record as the freshman class of 2011. In 2013, many of the frosh class of 2012 are playing JV and many of the frosh class of 2011 are playing varsity. In 2014, most of the frosh class of 2012 are playing significant varsity minutes as are most of the frosh class of 2011. Get what I am saying yet.

 

High school football at the level that Highlands has, does and wants to compete at is very reliant on one class stacking on top of the one above it and/or below it. To say that this years seniors at Highlands had a JV record last year of 1-5 is absurd considering 75% of the class was playing exclusively varsity football last year.

The comment on watching the film with some of the other fathers yes but it wasn't with coaches you can believe that. Many of the parents agree if the coaches put more priority on the frosh and JV games that could make a huge difference in the up coming classes. Give the young men a chance to play . Would that really hurt the program cmon

How many kids are we talking? I've got 50+ on my jv and some kids are just going to be 40/40/40. Up by 40 or down by 40 with 40 seconds left to play.

Maybe if your kid wanted to see the field, you should have helped him get better instead of letting him quit. Quite the example you're setting. When the going gets tough, just quit and sulk about how the odds were always stacked against you and you never had a chance and it was always someone else's fault.
