if youre a JV kid that goes to all the stuff that incorporates a hs football team, they need to get you in the JV game for a series or two / game.

No actually I didn't say when he quit playing. Yet I did say all children should have playing time on the JV level and that is not the case.

Sorry but it's high school football not little league baseball if a kid wants to play out work the next player even on jv or should we continue give participation trophies to all untill they graduate. I think at high school level they should earn all playing time .

Not ALL coaches watch jv or freshman film. Freshman usually aren't filmed by staff and jv may not always be filmed. Often times, the head Coach will only attend the home games. It is what it is.....learning time.

If this is true then the Head coach is not doing his job in my opinion. There is NO reason not to make this important in your program. Find someone to film, anyone, and take the time to show it to the kids and help them learn. If you make it important to them, they will make the program important in their priorities. I just feel that if this is not being done there is a disconnect and if your program is not very successful maybe look at what your doing to develop your younger kids.

And that is all I am saying. All to often we go to these games only to find our boy's are being pushed back so these Juniors can play. And that doesn't so much bother me but when you have to sit and listen to parent's acting like look at my son isn't he the best and your son is benched that is hurtful to the children and me and my wife. We all have to pay that fee every year would I have paid it knowing my son was not going to play NO

Wow! That $90 you pay or whatever it is now, is for supplemental insurance coverage in case your child gets hurt. At a school in Park Hills, we pay $250ish the first sport and another $70 thereafter if you play another sport. And that's just so the sports programs can survive. There is no supplemental insurance provided. We are on our own in that dept. You are really getting a good deal my friend! Oh and just because you pay it, doesn't mean your child will start at any level. Our son didn't but he kept working hard at it and we supported him and the "program". Also never ever would I get on BGP and complain about it. That's like a "golden rule" there.

Oh yeah, and now we are watching him play on Saturdays.

I suggest next year, save your money and enjoy your child's high school years. Please!

Word.

I disagree that neither one matters. I also would say not to put significant stock in trying to win the JV or Freshman Cup. With these 2 teams you are just trying to get guys who won't play on Friday the opportunity to get snaps. Whether coaches watch the film on these games or not, I don't know, but I would hope that the coaches there are watching the games and giving advice to these guys when they come off the field so they at least have some guidance to get better. And who will take the Seniors spot not year when they are gone? That's why the better teams do give some credence to this to develop their players for next year.

I would say that this is where some of the better coaches are in their belief. Elaborating on the playing kids that don't play on Friday night. If you have a Jalen Reed and your back up is Mr. Smith you reward excellence with reps in the JV games all the while praying he doesn't take a catastrophic injury while doing so but to answer. Most definitely they matter for the future of your program.

Freshman and JV are two separate issues IMO. Not including weight and other year round training all these kids have started by mid July. Some work harder than others to EARN a starting position or even a chance to be a second. Pulling a starter out for a kid that has done nothing more than jumping-jacks all year is an injustice to the player that has worked hard to earn the right to play.

Freshman and JV games are developmental tools.

There is a bigger observance of individual performances more than teams.

Another concept that puzzles me is that if a substitute player doesn't block, tackle, catch , or run the ball well in practice how does playing in a game "develop" the player??

Every kid has a role. Maybe his role is to play scout team in practice. If that is his role then own it and be the best scout team player you can be. Sophomores aren't guaranteed time in a game unless his role is to be a game player. Maybe next year his role changes and he is a game player. You have to earn your spots. It is what it is. Quitting is not showing any respect for the coaches, players or the game.

Then you have the Kids that are starters in the Freshman Game and Starter in the JV game but can't even dress Varsity because they have played 8 Quarters. They may not be good enough to beat out the Seniors or Juniors but they are definitely better than some of the subs and could start on kickoff or punt. So you get your playing time in those gamesand wait your turn, that's life. Suck it up buttercup enjoy the High School Experience!! :-)

They do not watch film with the boy's nor do they tape it. I may add they do not even go to the games to watch what will be the future Varsity boy's. Makes one wonder why Highlands is down huh?

They do tape the home games I know for a fact. An the varsity are having there morning practices on saturday why the JV go play. This is how Highlands has done it for about the 5yrs I have been around the teams.
