Boone freshman played Dixie freshman (and sophomores?) early in the year. Score was pretty lopsided in favor of Boone. Dixie did have a pretty athletic QB. He should develop into a good football player in High School.

Since there is no championship game, the Beechwood freshman team has an open date. Any big schools interested in playing them?

 

The invite has been out there for some time. Beechwood is looking for a game for the next two weeks.

 

I said that there was no championship game this year..... I was wrong. The UNBEATEN team from the 'large' school division will play the UNBEATEN team from the 'small' school division. Would you then agree the winner was this years freshmens' best team?

 

Good.... it happened last Wednesday.

 

Even if we did get lucky and get a game....say with Highlands.... and win. Campbell Cty people would still say, 'well, we can beat you". People cannot do math.

Last years Freshman team had 6 8th graders... just so they could make a roster. Without numbers we cannot play the bigger schools. Just a fact. We have 21 freshman this year and 1 8th grader. we should have moved back up. it was short sighted on our part.

because by dropping down they can add some sophomores to their roster. You are thinking of as a competitive reason.... its not.... its a numbers reason.

Highlands is playing Campbell County on October 29th. The game has been on the schedule since Dixie canceled which was before the season even started. The Camels will be much improved for the rematch.

So let me get this straight. You got your bloomers in a bunch over a 1a school scheduling small schools. Coming from a SK fan- who has a coach/AD notorious for scheduling to meet his 6a talent even if it means playing every 2a school I town- That's rich.

SKNeer, you are correct in one assertion, years ago Beechwood did choose to play in the small school or large school freshmen league each and every year, the theory was that it was based on the roster size of the freshmen team. I can't comment on whether that was the real motivation, but that is what I have been told.

When the small school freshmen league disbanded Beechwood did play in the large school division for I believe 3 years. A couple of years ago, small schools that had not fielded a freshmen team in the prior 3 years committed to fielding freshmen / froshmore teams, and Beechwood committed to playing in the small school division and not jumping back and forth. Beechwoods schedule was set this year, but Newport backed out due to low numbers, and Holy Cross backed out due to low numbers of freshmen and sophomores.

It is my understanding that Beechwood is and will be committed to the small school division for the foreseeable future, but would agree they should try and schedule at least one more large school if available. It is my understanding the large school division had enough teams that there was no room in the schedule this year for additional games where small schools played up, but again that is my understanding.

There are several outstanding freshmen teams this year, Beechwood just happens to be one of them.....are they better than Highlands, CC, Ryle or Cooper, we will never know the answer to those questions, but I feel as though they would most certainly be competitive. Just my two cents worth.

So let me color this in crayon for our NEERfan. There is no jumping up and down year to year. 4yrs ago Beechwood played in the large school division and went through those teams like warm butter. It is easy to do with the likes of Stringer, Combs, Slusher, etc. The following year they played in the large school division because that was the only division with ~15 players all year. They physically took a beating with teams that had ~25-35 players. The year after that 2014 the coaches association decided to have a big school and a froshmore league. Due to size Beechwood was put in the smaller because they cannot forecast the numbers they will have each year. They are a 1A school with ~40 boys in the 9th grade competing with soccer, band, and cross country. So they are lucky if they get 20 players. Last year they lost to CCH and Scott twice with all of the other games fairly competitive. Again this year it was decided by the coaches association to keep the big school/froshmore schedules the same as last year since both were considered a success. Beechwood is fortunate enough to have a very talented freshmen class this year with the small numbers. They could compete in the larger division if that was where they were placed. Who would have thought the likes of Scott, NCC, etc. would not be very good even with playing sophomores. Some of the smaller schools have backed out of playing them in the next 2 weeks. I would believe there is an open invitation to any of the larger schools SK included if they would like to play. Beechwood does not jump up and down divisions as you may think. They are placed in the divisions the coaches association sees fit. If the froshmore division were to go defunct I would guess you would see the tigers in the large division again. Don't displace how good the freshmen tigers are due to the scores you see. They are a very good team. Just ask any of the CCH fans that got to see first hand. Ask one of the CCH fans if they think Beechwood could compete with the big schools this year. My guess is that they would say yes.

My only issue with this, how can you put Highlands ahead of Cov Cath? Cov cath beat them at Highlands 39-21 and out scored them 39-7 in the last three QTR's. Cov Cath has to be ranked 2. Cov Cath also pretty much dispatched Campbell twice, once was a scrimmage though but they won both fairly easily.

Somebody said Trinity has an opening! I would have to believe we would be the underdog... in a big way.

 

Also, I agree B-paw.... Cov Cath is ahead of Highlands.

Hopefully Beechwood also looks into playing a school in SW Ohio, maybe they can find a game our two to finish out their season.
