Straight from High School to the NFL?

Featured Replies

Adrian Peterson said recently he could have went straight from High School to the NFL at 18 years old and have been fine.

Do you think AP or any HS kid is ready to run with the big boys at 18 years old straight out of High School?

Sure they could, but they wouldn't last long in the league. A lot of physical maturity happens in those 3 years of college ball.

Cam newton comes to mind from a physical standpoint, but I think very few people could play at the speed, and mental level required to play in the NFL

Eric Swann went to the NFL after playing a year at community college and semi pro football. He's the only one I can think of that's come close to making the jump.

Otis did it. Played for the Raiders when they were mean.

That's still 2 years removed from High School

Sistrunk went to the Marines and then played a few years of semi pro ball before going to the Raiders, he didn't go to the Raiders straight out of High School.

Yep. I can't imagine anyone being able to be able to make the jump both physically and mentally from playing Friday nights right to playing on Sundays.

Otis Sistrunk.

Swann was about 21 when he first played in the NFL. Sistrunk was probably or so.

Youngest player I can think of the kid from UL - Amobe Okoye - who was 19 when he was drafted.

He graduated from high school really young, and started college at 16 I think.

That was the kid from Louisville that graduated from high school really young, correct??

Yes.

...and Otis Sistrunk went to college - University of Mars.

I would like to see the rule/practice reduced from three years to two years, that sounds about right to me.
