Highlands stuggles against the run Dixie 27-14

Who is Dixie's RB? have they dominated with the run against any other teams? I need some more explanation behind this run theory besides Highlands Def isn't good. SK, Ryle, Cooper, Scott Co, and St X (that's a lot) have for real offenses. I don't really see Dixie doing more than H did against teams like the ones listed above. Maybe youre right though, Highalnds tackling has been poor at best so its a def possibility. just would like to hear about the stud rock carrier from Dixie.

keep right on telling yourself that, the reality is there ain't much in the pipeline in the next few seasons for the birds, and again that's 100% fact, but keep living with your past achievements and telling yourself everything is just fine, but just remember, "a fool and his money are soon parted," and in this case you'll be broke over the next several seasons, again 100% fact, enjoy!

wow, youre not helping your cause.... if Highlands history is so forgoten for you and you don't care why are you relishing beating them so much? I don't get it?

Ryle will bet Highlands next year by 5 TD's and that my friend is 1,000% fact. :thumb:

I thought Ryle was a good school? a fact is a h.s. football score next year? 1000%?

Cause Highlands has a bad year doesn't mean everything is over. Ryle vary well could beat Highlands next year. Highlands football is not going to stoop to a Ryle (199?-2014) type of team. Get your licks in now this year. cause the pain train will be coming back.

:D I'm still trying to figure out what they're going to bet? Kids :ohbrother:, ya gotta humor them.

Of course I wish everyone would stop quoting the kid, it kind of defeats the purpose of the ignore feature.

The fact you are living in your Ivory tower tells me all I need to know> BTW this is 2015, and the glory days of Highlands football are over. Now go and have yourself a good

........Nothing wrong with being boastful about ones own team, but making silly statements about another is just plain ludicrous. I find reading your comments quite laughable.

As far as the game, like I said earlier in this thread, I like the Birds in this one.

I asked and stated earlier that "tackling" is the least of this teams problems defensively. Elaborate for me on "poor tackling" please. You said you live out of town, so how do you say "poor tackling"? This is a serious question. There are several things that have to take place before you can "tackle" someone the last I checked.

Yeah, I guess my cred isn't too hot since I only listen to broadcasts and watch them when available. But when I do it seems like there is more arm tackling than usual. there will be a running back coming through the hole and the defender doesn't wrap both his arms around the runners legs and form tackle. they kinda just try to pull them down. this is against Dillon Powell though. I also haven't liked the pursuit that I have seen. sure a few times a series there are more than 5 helmets at the ball but the guys back side seem to turn into spectators when the play goes away. Please tell me im dead wrong and my eyes have been playing tricks on me but doesnt the scoreboards say im right? Its either that or they don't know how to get off blocks its one or the other... or they would have a good D right?

Don't get me wrong there are some defenders I love, Daurghty & Beal for sure. They can bring the wood.... but by the time they have a lick on a runner he has 10 yds. I know Crosley New can hit like a train but he is only a soph and I don't think he starts for some reason.

It's easy to blame tackling as a problem. But what people fail to recognize is that tackling is as much a function of size and speed as it is anything else. It's amazing how bad tackling gets when you play bigger and faster kids. Say what you want about coaching, desire, passion or whatever. Faster and bigger backs are harder to tackle and make defenders poorer tacklers, especially at the high school level.

Its easy to blame anything really. 90% of football is blocking and tackling. if you can do those you have a really good chance.

form tackling is what is about. you cant go anywhere w/o your legs... now that is a real fact. you can run a marathon while someone is holding on to your jersey. watch the belt buckle, stay low, nose on the ball, wrap up the thighs, hang on for dear life and your buddies will come. ive seen some small scrappy guys take down D1 guys. it comes down to guts, form and finishing. Killer instinct is a must for def guys.

I don't disagree about needing to know "how" to tackle, and yes, tackling requires some heart too. But not being able to get into position to execute is what creates a lot of arm tackles. I'm guessing Highlands does a pretty good job of teaching technique. I'm also going to go out on a limb and say their tackling suddenly improves this week and when they play Grant County.

Gap assignment and the right personnel on the field and in the correct position. Tyler Browning is not on this d-line. Depth is not your friend. My thoughts.

Crosley New in on the Shelf until next year. He had to have Shoulder Surgery after the Cooper game. Apparently it's a shoulder issue that dates back to Basketball season last year. Hope he can recover!

If you are playing better backs, true, they can be harder to tackle. That is why you work on tackling every day. For bigger backs, you work on hitting low. It is one thing to "teach" good technique; another thing to work on it every day so you continue to improve. If you want to be a good tackling team, you work on tackling. If you want to be a good passing team, you work on throwing the ball, etc. IMO - too many teams teach tackling early, then never really spend much time on it during the season because of everything else going on. Many coaches are concerned about getting kids hurt in practice. But there are ways to work tackling and minimize the risk of injury at the same time.

I wondered what happened, hate to hear that but good luck to him on his recovery!

My son is asking if video will be available on this one or just the audio?
