Is there a reason there were so many varsity games on a Thursday night throughout the state tonight?

In the past a lot of schools have been closed the first Friday of October for the state teachers union meeting. Not sure if that's still the case, but these Thursday night games have traditionally been a regular occurrence.

Fall Break starts for a lot of schools after tomorrow. Gives a lot of the fans a chance to get on the road tomorrow afternoon if they are going anywhere, and even players-coaches. I know a few schools who plan (or have in the past) their Open week during Fall Break & just get out of dodge.

 

I THINK Mayfield and Bowling Green are a couple of programs that have (and, still might) done that in the past, even some middle of the road programs that have done it.

That makes sense. I was beginning to wonder if there was a new holiday I just wasn't aware of.

JCPS is off Friday for St. James art fair, so play on Thursday because Friday no school.

 

And if you dont live in Louisville Area, St. James is a big deal.

Absolutely Right Harry! BG does exactly this and is why their only Thursday game was last night and their bye week is this coming week.:thumb:

I feel the majority of coaches, players, and fans do not like Thursday games.

I've always heard from folks at JCPS that it's a fairly practical justification: they can't get school buses through huge chunks of the heart of the city during the art fair that's now spread across the majority of Old Louisville.

They also can't get enough subs for teachers that want to take the day off.

I'd like the idea if the school started fall break on game day Friday. SK has fall break next Friday but plays that night. I'd have no issue with them playing that game on Thursday and giving the kids an extra day off.

In Jefferson County a lot of (if not most of) the schools have trouble getting students at games when school is in session, when school is out of session it would be impossible. If school is out on Friday and they played that night attendance would be way down.
