I really don't want to post this but I posted when we won, so here it is.

CC is a terrific team with some big boys and quite a few athletes.

Congratulations to a strong CC team.

What are the records of these two teams? That score looks like bad news for Boone County.

Is this freshman?

Yes, I amended the title.

@Voice of Reason Boone is 2-3. Beat Holmes and Dixie. Got pasted by Ryle and Cooper and now Campbell County.

Is the Boone program in serious trouble? If so, what are the main issues they face now and in the future? Has Cooper and Ryle picked away at Boone's talent? NKY is always more fun to follow when Boone is competitive. Keep your heads up Rebels.

Sounds like my friend from Alexandria may be right. He said that Campbell had some very good young players coming up soon from the freshmen and middle school classes.

Campbell County has the talent. If they can play smart, they could be very good in the future.

Camels probably took out some frustration of losing some early season games to Highlands and CovCath on the Rebels. They have some talented players just need to execute better from what I saw of them and play smarter.

Is the Boone program in serious trouble?

It's been in serious trouble for a few years. The perception was that Boone needed to update the offense so they brought in Griff. He didn't stay. Why? He got a better offer?... maybe. Maybe he saw how the talent stacked up around Boone County for the next few years and thought he had a tough row

If so, what are the main issues they face now and in the future?

Bringing stability to a program that's been in flux. Perhaps more important, get talent to come out for football. I've got to believe there is talent walking in the hallways of BCHS. I see kids that look like football players. I'll tell my son he needs to tell the kid to go out for football and he'll say, "He's soft." The freshman team has some talent on the team. There is a core of boys who have played football for a while and they can play (same thing is true of each class). The problem is that Boone doesn't have the numbers that say, a Ryle has. Ryle puts in their offense and they have the horses. The offense trots off and the defensive players go in and they have just as many horses on defense. Boone leaves their guys in to play both ways because they don't have enough football players.

Here's the issue: you have to find talent and then that boy has to have the desire to play (that's huge), to come to practice every day, to keep his grades up so he stays eligible. He may have a job because his family needs the income. The family isn't supportive of his efforts. There are a host of issues involved. I don't have the answer as to how to get the kids to come out, be dedicated, and play with heart.

I'll tell you what... there is passion for football among the parents and coaches who are involved in football. It starts in the Pee Wee league, BCPWFL. There are men and their wives who are dedicated to that league and to football and to the boys. And there are kids that play there for years. As they get older, the talent starts to get whittled away... some to Ryle, some to Cooper, some to Conner, some to Boone. Those who stay at Boone (I am referring to the parents of players) are just as passionate as they are any where else.

Has Cooper and Ryle picked away at Boone's talent?

You bet. See above.

NKY is always more fun to follow when Boone is competitive.

Thank you.

Keep your heads up Rebels.

... and our pads low.

If that's the case, NKY football will be boring to watch for a long time then.

Boone is really down and there isn't a light at the end of the tunnel.

It is sad to watch. Boone's problem is the fact that more and more families are moving out of the city of Florence and headed to Union. Florence, the main city of Florence, has no room to grow. They are old subdivisions, many are becoming run down so when families have the means to move out to a bigger and newer home they do so. OldGrappler is right, there are many passionate parents and coaches in Boone's district but unfrotunatley many of the kids now are working etc. and doing things to help their families out and football is the last thing on their priority list. It's very sad to watch because we originally lived in Boone's district and our oldest graduated from Boone. We moved out to the Union area where our boy played for another High School other than Boone. All his friends growing up who originally would have played for Boone were then divided up among Boone, Cooper, Ryle and Conner. 5 of his best friends growing up with he had at least one of them in each of the high schools. the talent is spread around and unfortunately most end up at either Ryle or Cooper.

There really isn't a solution and is why I said there really isn't a light at the end of the tunnel for the Boone program.

How is Boone's enrollment? Could they go down in class the next time?

Re: moving down a division in class... talk to @theguru about that. He has strong opinions regarding what class the Boone schools should be playing in. Boone's enrollment hit a high point with the couple of classes around this year's senior class. Judging by enrollment in the elementary school I am familiar with it is dropping some. It is also changing by socioeconomic categories.

@GreyFox describes the situation accurately. My son's middle school supplies three different high schools. His friends and former teammates are spread all over. Population growth is occurring south and west of the Boone H.S. district so additional talent (speaking only of sports) is going there not at Boone H.S. And yes, people move out of Boone H.S. district to the other regions of the county.

Families that are a little higher on the economic scale generally have the means, opportunity, and values that are conducive to creating a stronger academic and athletic atmosphere. I am not saying that any of that is missing at Boone, but that when a family is struggling to make ends meet (which happens in a greater percentage at Boone) involvement in extra curricular activities is a little further down the priority list. I think Boone High School does a great job of preparing kids academically (we just received some of the highest academic kudos in the county). There is no knock there. But not everyone takes advantage of it and that has to do with life situation (sometimes beyond one's control) and the value a family places on academics with their kids. Same is true for athletics.

This is my opinion. Please prove me wrong.

Just a thought. Ryle, Cooper, and now Conner with the Bandits all have youth programs that are more local to their schools that over the years develops a core of kids that have played together. The BCPWFL is very good but as far as I know most teams practice e in Burlington (sometimes a long trip to and from). A Rebel youth team could practice in Florence and possibly keep that core of players at Boone

Preaching to the choir. The reason Cooper and Ryle have their feeder programs is because years back whenever BCPWFL was approached and asked to have their teams associated with the 4 High Schools in the county, the league always put up a front and refused to do so. If they would have associated the pee wee teams with the high schools then all the kids could play for the team that was representative of the school they would go to once they reached 9th grade and not only would the kids have years of playing together etc. but the schools would also know what they had coming up. BCPWFL had always refused to go that route and it never made sense why. So Ryle and Cooper both formed their own junior teams for the middle school kids and it feeds right into the high school teams. That is another reason that Boone has fallen behind. Just one of many reasons.

Personally I think egos got in the way with the BCPWFL. There are some teams, and I wont need to name them, that have coaches that think that winning at all cost is the most important thing instead of preparing the kids for the future. Some didn't want their "dynasties" split up. It was so bad at times that there would be a team for instance, even though there was supposed to be a draft to select the players for the teams, yet one team always seemed to have triple the amount of kids on their team while others scraped up just enough kids to field a team.

Just a shame how that league has been run into the ground. Was once a great league has become nothing more than an after thought lately.

BCPWFL did Boone Co. HS no favors.

Boone County High School is landlocked, no real estate for growth. Numbers will not go up unfortunately. The football program has been in a downward direction for many years. However, why is it just football in this case, other sports in the school don't seem to be affected by it? They have been very successful in the district in basketball, soccer, baseball...why is it just with the football program?
