Russellville, like veryone else in 1A,was not able to get over the Mayfield hump. With Mayfield now in 2A, Russellville has a ton of enthusiasm and momentum. This team may be their strongest one yet. Big game this week versus Murray to really prove themselves. Has Russellville reached Mayfield status in the 1A far west? How does this team compare with previous Russellville teams? Would this year's team have been the one to finally beat Mayfield? Are Russellville fans wishing they had another shot at Mayfield with this team? How good is Russellville?

I don't know much about this years team, but I do know Coach Myers from playing for him at Mayfield. He is a great guy, and even better coach. I'm sure he is excited for the opportunity to step in and fill Mayfield's shoes, and I wish him nothing but the best. But...........after watching his teams play for the last few years, his biggest problem with competing at a higher level has been their line play. If they can get better play in the trenches, watch out! Until that happens I don't think they will be able to give the Beechies much challenge.

On the one hand, Trigg County, Ft Campbell, @Butler Co, Logan Co, and Todd County Central aren't murder's row. On the other hand, all those teams are 2A to 4A teams and the Butler Co squad is the best they'd had in years.

Concerning Mayfield, to be the man; you have to beat the man. I don't see that, but do NBA teams have to beat Jordan to win the title? Not when he's retired from 1A.

So how good is this team? I think Friday night goes along way in helping us know along with the final 2 games of the regular season. Russellville only plays about 21 to 25 guys, will that hurt them in a big game? BUT they have serious talent and speed and are really well coached. I think they can give Beechwood problems; can they do it for 4 quarters? I don't know.

I read somewhere that Russellville says this line is the best they have had.

I don't think Russellville will be begging for another shot at Mayfield, but this team is very talented. They have great skill kids (especially with the addition of Drumgole), and are big up front. Combine that with Coach Myers and I could see them finding their way to BG in what most would see as an upset over Beechwood.

Very dangerous, very dangerous team and coach. Myers is not as well known as some of the great coaches but make no mistake he is very good and leaves no stones unturned. That said I'm sure he is glad the Cards have moved on but he sure was a strong concern for the Cards ever single year. We feared them more than anyone else in 1A

Talk to several past coaches at Rville they were very excited about line said best line since the 80 and 90s when they won championships skill wise better than last year I am saying they beat Murray but don't know if they could beat MF but would play them close and last they beat beechwood if played at Rhea Stadium (Barrett field).

Who is Coco?

Coco Dardin, a Russ stud who graduated but before doing so gave the Cards fits. I think his father must have had some Mack Truck in him. Tough kid, be glad he departed

Coco was 1A player of the yr last year. Now a preferred walk on at WKU. If I'm not mistaken I believe he was first team all state to.

I think Mayfield being gone is just that. They are gone and now other teams in the area of the playoff bracket are getting more attention and a bigger chance, but although this is russelville's best team ever to some, that is not saying much, at least for relatively recent history.

You can't really play that game in high school football. New stars come and go every year and that's all. What if beechwood said "Oh a shame we don't have this o-line, Max Nussbaum over here, so-and-so at WR for this year." High school can only be taken in the perspective of each year as it's played.
