Those teams the Panthers had when they were playing up in 3a a few years back would have a lot to say about some of the best teams.. Maybe 1 or 2 of the years Russellville played Mayfield, I felt Russellville was the best 1a team Mayfield played. I felt Beechwood was better 3 of the 5 years, Russellville, 1 of the 5.. About even the other. I think they were better than the Frankfort team that beat Beechwood though..

I think Russellville is legit and more than capable of winning the whole thing, but to say they are Mayfield based on a few games is somewhat of an insult to how great Mayfield was during the run. If Russellville wins a title or two or three then let's talk but till then I prefer to say what I know to be true. Russellville is a good football team that along with a handful of others has a chance to win A.

I think Mayfield being gone is just that. They are gone and now other teams in the area of the playoff bracket are getting more attention and a bigger chance, but although this is russelville's best team ever to some, that is not saying much, at least for relatively recent history.

 

Any school that has 2 titles and 5 trips to the finals and fans say this is their best team ever, that's saying something.

You can't really play that game in high school football. New stars come and go every year and that's all. What if beechwood said "Oh a shame we don't have this o-line, Max Nussbaum over here, so-and-so at WR for this year." High school can only be taken in the perspective of each year as it's played.

We play that game everyday on this site. I understand what you're trying to say with horse blinders on. But that's a big component of what makes this site great is that we recall the players (Bush, Brohme, Guidugli, Jonathon Jackson, Lorenzen, Couch, Fant, and on and on) gone by and discuss this in association with today's game. To say you can't talk about historical players in today's context is limiting the fun you can have on this site IMO.
