Toughest potential road to a state championship

Featured Replies

I noticed Bowling Green has a potentially brutal road to get a state championship:

Round 2 vs #10 Christian County (#6 by BGP)

Round 3 @ #2 Owensboro (#3 by BGP)

Semi's vs #8 Fern Creek (#4 by BGP)

Finals vs #3 Pulaski County (#2 by BGP)

Anyone else have a tougher road - that has a realistic chance to win it all (ranked in the top 10 themselves)?

Sure - the team that has to play Bowling Green first! :sssh:

I'd say all of the teams in the western region of 3A have tough roads as well. Bardstown likely has the toughest road IMO. They could start round one against LexCath couldn't they?

Yes...if they were the 3 seed

@ #4 LexCath

@ #3 Central

@ #1 Boyle

@ #5 Caldwell County

vs. #2 Belfry

If they pulled a miracle run it is possible they would have to beat the Top 5 teams in 3A with no games at home.

You got me on a technicality DFire. I'm changing it to those that have a legitimate chance of winning it all.

In that case... Lexington Catholic for me in 3A

I think this is how 6-A D3-vs-D4 could shake out:

Male-Jtown

Manual-Eastern

X-Ballard

PRP-Trinity

Ballard could go 6-2-1 (X-Trinity-Male), PRP could go 2-6-1 (Trinity-X-Male), Eastern could go 5-1-2 (Manual-Male-Trinity). Teams would see 10 McCracken in semis, but 3 Scott County in the final/championship.

Eastern could have to go through five top-10 teams, including four of the top 5 (Manual in R1, Male in R2, Trinity in R3 and Scott County in R5/Championship).

Even Trinity could go 9-6-1 in the first three rounds and the 10-3 in the semis/championship. That's five top-10 teams for Trinity, too, including 3 of the top 6 and 2 of the top 3 (can't play the other since Trinity IS the other).

For teams with championship aspirations

6A- Ballard

vs. #6 St. Xavier

@ #1 0 McCracken County

vs. #3 Scott County

Yeah that virtually assures Ballard no chance. I can't see a tougher road in 6A than that. 6A is going to be tough for whoever wins it. Can Scott beat the big Lville teams?

Individual rankings CLASS-ONLY wise, LexCath/Bardstown have hard roads. Perhaps the toughest. Four top-five teams for LexCath or Bardstown. That's brutal.

In terms of overall rankings statewide composite, any 6-A team in District 3 or District 4 would have a tougher overall road (using computer rankings by CalPreps, MaxPreps, CJ's Lit or LHL's Cantrall).

However, Bardstown isn't that great in the big scheme of things. Elizabethtown dominated Bardstown defensively and E'town's barely a top-25 team overall in any computer ranking (CalPreps has E'town 28, but Bardstown 94th overall in the state).

Using the CalPreps computer, Eastern would have 04-Manual, 01-Male, 02-Trinity, 15-McCracken, 03-Simon Kenton (all four of the top four overall teams in the state).

And if LexCath defeats Boyle in the regular season then Boyle County will have the toughest road.

That would be a memorable run for them

Boyle and Catholic are both ranked ahead of Garrard right now. If those rankings held, the Boyle/Catholic loser would be the 2-seed and would host Henry County in the first round, while Garrard would go to Bardstown (assuming, of course, Bardstown finished ahead of Henry).

That would be a memorable run for them

I will go on record now and say if Bardstown wins the State Title I will take a picture wearing the mascot's head as I go to Chic Fil-A and stand in line HAHA

What would Fern Creeks road to the title be?
