September 16, 201511 yr I can't believe it took so long to get to "Hotbox". In Louisville I would say 60/40 Hotbox over Pickle. Never even heard of "Runners" until this thread. And "Monkey in the Middle" was a different dodge-ball type of game.
September 16, 201511 yr Villa Hills, KY - we called it Pickle. I will say you hear broadcasters refer to the situation more as "caught in a rundown" rather than pickle these days.
September 19, 201511 yr I grew up Covington and until this thread never heard it called anything but pickle.
September 20, 201511 yr I called it "something I never wanted to play". I never liked any games where there was the potential for a ball to hit my face.
September 21, 201511 yr Pickle and almost always played on asphalt. Loved every minute of it. Between that game, home run derby and capture the flag, I was worn out at end of day!!
September 21, 201511 yr With Rockmom - Hot Box was the term in Louisville back in the 70s. I have heard it called hot box before. Guys that I played baseball with in college from Allentown/Bethlehem, PA area called it hot box. And yes, we still played it while in college.
September 23, 201511 yr .... Pickle, but I've heard Hotbox as well. Never heard the others. Hot box? The only time I've heard anything called Hot Box it referred to something WAY, WAY different.
