Danville 20 Corbin 0

Featured Replies

I heard the local radio guy in Corbin say the final would be Corbin 36 Danville 30 today. Guess not.

I think this answers a few questions about Corbin. Redhounds had been unimpressive in wins over weaker opponents. And even though Danville lost last week they still have a good team. Corbin takes a big step back in the 3A pecking order, in my opinion.

Not very many teams are on Boyle County's level this year. That doesn't mean Danville isn't a top notch 2A team because they clearly are. This Admiral team is going to be scary come playoff time. Go Ads!

Reality has set in, but that's probably a good thing as they have a lot of work to do before they can beat a really good team. Danville put 8 defenders at the line of scrimmage and dared Corbin to beat them with big plays, and they couldn't.

The good thing for Corbin is they're basically a playoff win over Bell County away from the state semifinals. They have potential and also have time to improve.

These mite sized ADS are playing very Fast and very hard. Hats off to this group.

So, you are telling me that Danville played the old "Gap 8" defense?

No.

It might have looked like they played with 8 guys at the LOS because of their speed, read and reaction ability, but they did not line up with 8 defenders at the LOS. Not vs Corbin's offense.

He didn't say they played "Gap 8" defense. If you're not familiar with the term loading the box maybe you should watch a little more football. It's changed a little over the years...

"The box" is totally different than "at the line of scrimmage".

The box is the area at the LOS & those 3-5 yards+. The line of scrimmage, is, well....

Examples:

A base 4-4 vs a standard 2 back-pro look would be considered 8 in the box.

A Gap 8 look vs. A double tight, full house backfield with all 8 available gaps covered up is "at the line of scrimmage".

Maybe you should.

I'm not sure what you call the defense they played, but I would call it very effective.:lol2:

Corbin possibly losing Cima prior to the game, who is their most experienced offensive lineman, is the most important thing going forward for the Hounds. Hopefully he will make it back to play again before his Sr. season is over.

I completely apologize how that came out. After reading it, I can see where one could take offense. It was a bit short, blunt and to the point.

Knowing Danville, they live and die for the most part playing out of their 50 (or 3-4, however you want to look at it) look; much like Belfry does. They'll screw down to a Cover 3 look out of it with their Strong Safety & with their speed, it can very much look like all 8 of those guys are up there on the LOS after the snap.

My original post wasn't meant to sound patronizing. When I read "8 guys at the Line of Scrimmage" I thought, "Danville? Against Corbin's spread No. Now if that was Rock & how they play 'sick'em' against what virtually seems like everything? Then yes. :lol2:"

Again, my apologies to you in how that came out. :thumb:
