September 9, 201511 yr He has spoken out against officers being killed. Is that how he is supposed to wake up each day? Make a statement denouncing the war on LEOs every morning? Don't statistics show that attacks on cops are down this year? It's not Obama's fault that he says what they want to hear but they missed it when he said it. Maybe they should get their news from other sources. That might go against their agenda though.

Many people in the public want to blame Obama for all of the police deaths, when in fact, police deaths are down, not as much as we would like but they are down. In fact, there will have to be almost 300 police deaths this year and next for the number of LEO deaths during the time Obama was president to equal the LEO deaths in the 8 years that Bush was president. I'm not saying that was Bush's fault, just pointing out that LEO deaths have not gone up in the past 6 1/2 years. What we need to be working on is how can we reduce this number?
September 9, 201511 yr That's the way to set a good example. How else should they get their point across?
September 9, 201511 yr Let's not pretend Obama has done nothing to create an anti-police feeling. He made televised appearances and sent reps from the White House to Mike Brown's funeral. He said one officer acted "stupidly" in the "beer summit" case. He has been a critic of police in cases when he apparently knows nothing about the case before the facts are even released, doing nothing but creating more tension. These are just a couple examples. When two New York officers were assassinated what did he do...send a tweet? When 8 or 9 died in a short time period, did he send anyone to the funerals? Did he get on tv at the White House when the Deputy was executed? I read a few statements from him and heard he made a phone call... I don't expect him him to go to every funeral, or even say something every time an Officer dies in the line of duty. However when he's sending people to the funeral of a guy who tried to kill an Officer, like it or not it looks bad and I can understand the reason Officers might feel the way they do. Btw I will give Joe Biden some credit. I believe he spoke at the NYPD Officers funeral. I don't like much that he does but he gave a good speech and he was there. I'm not a Biden fan, but that was a good gesture.
September 9, 201511 yr How else should they get their point across? I've always thought it was in poor taste when any military or police official blatantly opposed the President like that. They certainly do not have to agree and I wouldn't expect everyone to agree with the President all the time, regardless of who it is. That's unprofessional and sets a bad example for those who look up to the police. Be more professional.

Are fire fighters, ems, teachers, etc also not allowed to show disapproval towards the President? So do you take issue when he publicly critiques police in high profile cases, even before anyone knows if the Officer did or did not do anything wrong?

Too polarizing of a person to want to have all those issues at their police department. I thought Obama apologized to the cop over the beer summit or was the beer summit an attempt to bring both sides together? When White House reps were sent to Michael Brown's funeral the whole story wasn't out and the general belief all across America was that an unarmed black kid was shot in the back with his hands up. What did Obama's Justice Department find out about that killing whe they conducted their investigation? I could have sworn that they found no wrong doing by the officer. Let's not act like Obama is a card carrying member of the hashtag activists #blacklivesmatter . After the Michael Brown fiasco he was smarter about sending reps out and making comments. It's funny(not really) but cops say he doesn't do or say enough, blacks say he doesn't do or say enough, republicans say he does and says too much. I still say it doesn't matter what he says or does. He's always going to be wrong whether he says something or not.

The facts weren't out but he chose to support Mike Brown's family and contributed to the hatred of an innocent man.

I'm not arguing that or the beer summit. However, if folks are still mad about that a year later when after the fact he proved to provide a fair and just investigation into the matter and learned from that mistake AND has spoken out on the recent killings AND called and offered condolences to a slain officer's wife then there isn't going to be anything he can do to appease those boycotting cops and that is unfortunate.

So do you take issue when he publicly critiques police in high profile cases, even before anyone knows if the Officer did or did not do anything wrong? Of course they are allowed to have opinions. It's my opinion that ANY person in an "official" position like that (that would include the ones you mentioned as well) shows poor taste when they openly degrade or disrespect the President, especially if they are on duty. I don't care what they do or say on their own time.

Didn't he invite Michael Brown's family to the white house or am I imagining that? He's gone on tv several times for high profile police cases, but never when an officer is killed. If you can't see why police would be upset it's because you don't want to see it. These days it feels like there is a lot of police hate. With that on top of the things the President has done in past cases, along with the fact that he's no where to be seen when Officers are murdered (by that I mean he's not calling any press conferences), it's not hard to see why they're upset.
