Boston Police Officers Boycott President's Speech

Featured Replies

I'm pretty sure houses are worth next to nothing in that area now, so if they own one I'd say it would be impossible to sell.

Not to mention their family probably ask live around there. It's honestly sad that moving has to be an option for a guy who did nothing more than defend his own life.

I don't disagree but that place is no longer home. I wouldn't subject myself or my family to that kind of life at all. Cut our losses and go. It was a tragic event but two lives don't have to be lost that day as a result. Would you stay there? I know I wouldn't. I just can't imagine why he would want to stay there.

I'd do my best to leave but I'd understand if they don't want to.

I feel you. I hate it for Wilson. I hope they make the decision to move one day.

Couldn't they just move and be hired by another police department far away from Missouri? Why stay in such a depressing situation? I'd have packed up my family and moved away a long long time ago.

He said he thought about it but decided to stay because he knew the area and where he could and couldn't go.

I hate it for the fella. I still feel like there is somewhere he can go away from Missouri without having to live under such care and scrutiny. He deserves a normal life.

What do the police officers want Obama to do?

I think the first thing would be to not over react without all of the information being known.

Most people just aren't as politically savvy or as up to date on current events as the average BGPer is. When they see the President/White House making a statement about the Michael Brown case or sending someone to the funeral they think that if the President is doing this then the police officer must be wrong. Just by his actions he validated what they were thinking even though it would come to be wrong.

I understand that the President probably won't comment every time an officer is killed in the line of duty, but after sending representatives to several funerals of others that are slain...sending a representative when a Police Officer is killed for no reason but that he was a police officer shouldn't be too much to expect.

I thought they only sent reps to Michael Brown's funeral. Did they send reps to others? They shouldn't send reps to anyone's funeral IMO. If you do for one you need to do for all. Shouldn't just pick and choose who is deserving and who isn't. As you stated, it sends the wrong message.

It was more than just Brown, I think.

I wish he had never sent any reps to any of them. I don't think there was malicious intent behind sending reps there but it definitely sends the wrong message.

Google tells me white house reps were sent to funerals of Michael Brown and Freddie Gray

They have sent reps to others funerals not necessarily someone killed by the police. The Deputy that was killed in Texas was probably one where if someone is going to go they should go to that one. Biden did go to NY when the two NYPD officers were killed in their car.

I liked that Biden went to the NYPD funeral. I thought his speech was good too.

Freddie Gray's family got the settlement so that muddies things up. Sure the criminal case still needs to be heard but the Gray family received money for his death. A rep at their funeral is okay for me.

If reps going to funerals count against Obama then he should get a ton of points for Biden going to NY and making a speech. Biden>reps.

They never should have sent anyone to Brown's funeral. Hindsight is 20/20 though.

I can agree with that.
