One of the more strangest games I have seen for at least the first half. Not sure what the Simon Kenton coaches are thinking or doing. They go for it on their own 10yd line in the opening drive! Hoping the Coaches did not call that and maybe the QB took it upon himself to run? So Sk did not make it (4th and 15) and CC got the ball back with a short field and eventually scored. CC scored next on a pick 6. CC scored next on a fumbled snap/broken play as the QB did a good job picking it up and scrambling to his left and the corner and safety came up thinking he is running and throws to a wide open receiver. The last score of the half was a Hook & Ladder that was well executed for a score. SK coaches need to get there stuff together...they left their defense exposed, at least twice with a short field by going for it on 4th down deep in the own territory. They have a complete platoon, NO one goes both ways and have a complete different 11 guys also on the kickoff team, (oh, except the kicker) that do not start offense or defense and yes CC scored on a Kick return but it was called back but scored in another short field.

Bottom line is SK cannot platoon and be competive, they don't have the personnel. However they could be very competitive if they have some boys go both ways. They have probably 4-5 kids that play defense that should be on offense.

Positive note-the SK run defense was pretty good, i don't there was a run of more than 8 yds. Pass coverage needs work. SK offensive line needs a couple of kids from the defense.

 

Not taking anything away from SK's run stopping ability, but CC's strength is their passing game. The ground game will get some positive yards to keep the passing game effective. I heard their best RB from last year is now on defense.

First game with 3 groups of kids playing together for the first time. See how that turns out in 3 years buddy!

It's Freshman ball. If you have the numbers and you can platoon, you should. All about development and getting kids on the field and engaged at that age.

 

I agree 100% freshman football is all about development and fostering an atmosphere where the kids stay engaged and involved. In many ways a freshman teams true success should be shown when kids are juniors and seniors. IMO

The first series on 4th down they didn't go for it and the QB didn't take it upon himself to run. The coaches had the QB trying to draw the Camels offsides with a hard 4 count and that was the play call in the huddle. The center snapped the ball on 1 and the play was immediately broken. My point is made from my previous comment that the QB doesn't win or lose the game by himself and also that that game was just a poor all around effort. Let's see if the SK TEAM learned from their mistakes and if the can rebound this week against Scott.

I heard Campbell manhandled them but I didn't know the final score.

I suppose we would have to do an analysis of the teams each year (not that, that is a good indicator) and how many years has Coach Lickert been at Campbell?

All I know is that I saw this years freshmen team as middle school players.....they were freaking huge! Not talking about big for 8th graders big, I'm talking big for seniors in high school.

The young Camels have some good size, but the most noticeable thing is they have a lot of "athletes".
