Ashland with an impressive win. I'd like to see the final stats on this game. I thought Raceland played well, and the Davidson kid is a good looking QB. He throws a great deep ball. He did overthrow one for a pick tonight, and threw behind a receiver that was open downfield, but he's going to make a lot of noise with his arm this year I believe.

Raceland has some decent RB's ... Christian was stopped for the most part in this one, at least from what he did last week as well as last season. I am sure after his 125 + or whatever it was that Ashland had him in their sights. Snyder ran good last season, I look for him to break out and be a beast as the season goes on.

IMO one to watch will be Black, kid is a frosh I believe and he has a ton of talent plus speed.

Nothing to hang your heads about Raceland, but it proves the gap between them and Paintsville/Pikeville is minimal if not gone all together

if Ashland wants to develop a passing game they have to do a better job of picking up the blitz.

Raceland for a long time couldn't move the ball and lined up in the wishbone. Kinda shocked me. Ashland D was all over the place early on. Was fun to watch this D be aggressive instead of passive.

No doubt. And teams are going to bring it knowing Ashland doesn't have an experienced QB. They also need to have some quick routes where the QB can get rid of the ball quickly, and develop some confidence. I still say O'Bryan is way under utilized at the TE position. The pop pass was a huge weapon back in my day, and all through out Coach Marsh's coaching days.

Those are good points Our backs are very good with the ball but they are mediocre at picking up blitzes. Rolling out is an option but to throw on the run decrease the accuracy. We will improve from week 1. I hope we can get better every week and peak weeks 11-?

Congratulations to Ashland, they played harder and won the game. Raceland lost to a better team.

 

Baker had a great game. I thought O'Brien player great on defense. Raceland came out of the gate slow and seemed to be doomed. They settled in a began playing better. Were down 14-0 and made the half time score 21-14, they really needed to get the last score before half time to be in the game. Ashland played a lot of players and Raceland was tired in the fourth. Just out matched.

 

I liked what I seen from both teams, they seemed to be on the rise. Ashland is going to have a great season and Raceland played much better in week 2 from week 1, a good sign.

You're right, it's a blur at this point for me.

Raceland had 23 pass attempts according to the paper and I don't think Ashland had a sack. Something to think about considering GW is gonna throw a little more.

A few thoughts:

 

I thought our pass protection looked good. Our backs picked up on the blitz well. I thought our WR blocked really well on several of the screens as well. John Cherry in particular. If Ashland has a weakness, it's in the secondary. If two of the throws were on the money and hit the reciever in stride, they go for touchdowns. I was glad to see us taking shots down the field. We looked alot better this week than last week, a good sign. We wont see another back like Baker this year. Valley will have alot of tallent acrossed the field as well, which will give us a good gauge on how we grow from this game. Even though we didnt win the ball game, I do find solace in the fact that we didnt beat ourselves. We were simply alot slower than Ashland in the skill positions. We have a long way to go to get to where we want, but we did improve from last week and our desire and heart was there last night, it wasnt in the home opener. Nathaniel will continue to mature and looked good in making reads and not staring down one reciever. I think we will see more and more of Kyle Jamison establishing himself as a redzone reciever. We simply got beat last night. Hope bith teams came out clean and healthy. Both programs have a ways to go, but have alot of promise.

I watched this one on film just now and I have a few opinions on the game

 

 

Obviously the first one is Baker is amazing, getting that out of the way. Needed to control himself a little bit after the plays but Ashland was hyped up it looked like and it's the first game of the season so you can expect some of that.

 

Raceland isn't as fast as they have been in past few years. Not saying they're slow cause Ashland (Baker) is really fast, they just don't have the edge speed they have had.

 

Black from Raceland needs to be on the field. Kid should be playing running back or receiver if you aren't gonna play him at QB, he looks like their best runner so far behind Walker. When walker ran it seemed like he was getting positive yardage each time in a more downhill powerful way. Snyder I don't know how he runs but when he got the ball in this game it just didn't seem like he was getting any room to do anything. A few plays it looked like he should have had a lead blocker that just didn't really attempt to lead.

 

 

Both teams have good front 7s, Raceland most likely won't see a back like Baker again this season and will be able to get to him.

 

 

Ashland needs a QB decision, didn't see them throw but maybe once but both are good runners.

 

Overall this game will benefit both teams. Raceland probably more than Ashland. Raceland kids never quit and that Ashland team is really good and may win state, and if Raceland just tweaks a little bit they may make it there this year.

 

 

Also Racelands starting QB can throw the ball deep. Got a cannon
