PepRock, did Jason and Reggie stand out? I remember Jason taking plays off but the next play he would knock the QB over into the cafeteria. Again, do ever remember him not standing out? 99% of the time, you have to agree Reggie and Jason both looked like they didn't belong in a HS game...size, speed, results.

I don't know how I'm getting pulled so deep into this discussion or why I'm letting someone tell me what I did or didn't see on one night. The only thing I will agree with is one night isn't enough to judge a high school player. For that, I'm sorry I opened my mouth and if I offended a certain fan. Just trying to say the day I witnessed a certain player on the field, I was less than impressed with the attitude and effort - and he didn't stand out in way, shape or form (no more than a Zack Smith, Dalton Jones or Connor Carrico stand out) - and certainly not on the level of a Rodjay Burns...again, at first glance.

Do appreciate the feedback gang.

My only point was that even amazing athletes that have had great success at the next level weren't always dominant every night. Anyone who saw Trinity play BC in 1994 might wonder what the hype was all about with Shaun Alexander.

Best example ever. I do remember the game and anyone could have said the same thing about Shaun that day. Appreciate the reminder. But my goodness...he was scary to look at regardless of the outcome. At the very least, he passed the EYE test.

Shaun had no room to run that day, although, if memory serves, he still gained about 90 very tough yards.
Seriously seeking info here. Why do they need different athletes to run power, counter, zone and some RPO's?

They are running a true spread offense now. Much like Oregon, extremely high tempo, trying to utilize the entire field.

So let's get this straight? SK takes care of business against X. Everyone says X is having a down year. But know everyone is picking X over Henry Clay? :idunno:

Are you saying that Henry Clay is as good as Simon Kenton?

There are a few reasons to pick X...first it's a Lexington school and typical Lexington schools don't fair well against the big 3 from Louisville. Secondly, it's the first game of the year so of course many people are going to choose X over HC solely based on name along. Lastly, SK "took care of business" during a practice, so many will take that for what it's worth.

But I do understand your argument, and I can see X struggling against HC, but hard to see them getting beat by them.

I have seen film. They run power, counter, and zone with some RPO's and its much more like Auburn than Oregon. Why do they need different athletes to do that? Seriously, i'm not trying to be confrontational. What kind of players are the tigers missing where they can't run those plays? I know you are a Trinity fan, but this is the offense that X fans have been dreaming of for years.

Not seen the offense expect for a few highlights, but would imagine either A) QB position is not performing well, or B) too much East and West, instead of North and South.

Interested in the QB for X. Sorry we high jacked the thread. Any know who is starting. Has to be the Senior...right?

I saw on social media Riddler has been named starting QB, but take that for what's it's worth.

ST. XAVIER (0-0) VS. HENRY CLAY (0-0)

Both teams were off last week

* Kickoff/site: 6:15 p.m. at Lexington Catholic.

* St. X returns just three starters (one offense, two defense) from last year’s 8-5 team, but coach Will Wolford is excited about his new faces. Junior Desmond Ridder (6 feet 4, 185 pounds) has been named the starting quarterback. St. X has played Henry Clay just once, winning 26-0 in the 1995 Class 4-A state championship game.

* Henry Clay was 7-3 last season, losing to Meade County in the first round of the Class 6-A playoffs. Senior cornerback Davonte Robinson, who has committed to the University of Kentucky, is back after posting a team-high 56 tackles last year. This is the first game in Friday’s Bluegrass Bowl doubleheader. Host Lexington Catholic will face Ryle at 8:45 p.m.

* The pick: St. Xavier 28-9.

He's 2/2 folks.....to run this offense, your quarterback has to be very heady, and athletic......then you have to get your skill guys to run at varying speeds, but explode north/south, when it arises.....they aren't there yet.

The best analogy I can think of is Stanford and Oregon. They have two different types of players, and they run two very effective yet very different offenses. Stanford knows who they are. They are very competetive because they know who they are and do not try to be what they are not. If Stanford tried to run Oregon's offensive system, it would be a disaster. It would simply not be a good fit. That is what I am afraid is happening at Tiger Tech. I am concerned that they are trying to be something they are not by running a system that may be sound and may be popular and may be what the fan base covets, but is simply not a good fit.

I hope I am proven wrong.

Adapting a new philosophy takes time...if my memory serves me correctly Rick Pitino stuck with his philosophy when taking over UK. While they took some beatings because of their pressing style, Pitino was not willing to get away from his philosophy because he believed in it. Now, I'm sure there were and will always be adjustments, but the coach has to stick to what he believes is best for the team and changing style of play will take some time, but a coach can't just toss out his entire playbook, he/she must adapt to the players.

X's isn't going to be the fastest team on the field, but news flash they don't have to be; execution will beat speed more often than not. Be where you're supposed to be when you're supposed to be there. Many people of their green and white tented glasses on, and forget there have been years where the team on Shelbyville Rd. struggled, but they didn't just throw out the baby with the bath water. You adjust and find plays that fit your team.

To summarize, give the offense more than a scrimmage before the doom and gloom post start filling every St. X thread.
