He's 2/2 folks.....to run this offense, your quarterback has to be very heady, and athletic......then you have to get your skill guys to run at varying speeds, but explode north/south, when it arises.....they aren't there yet.

Adapting a new philosophy takes time...if my memory serves me correctly Rick Pitino stuck with his philosophy when taking over UK. While they took some beatings because of their pressing style, Pitino was not willing to get away from his philosophy because he believed in it. Now, I'm sure there were and will always be adjustments, but the coach has to stick to what he believes is best for the team and changing style of play will take some time, but a coach can't just toss out his entire playbook, he/she must adapt to the players.

 

X's isn't going to be the fastest team on the field, but news flash they don't have to be; execution will beat speed more often than not. Be where you're supposed to be when you're supposed to be there. Many people of their green and white tented glasses on, and forget there have been years where the team on Shelbyville Rd. struggled, but they didn't just throw out the baby with the bath water. You adjust and find plays that fit your team.

 

To summarize, give the offense more than a scrimmage before the doom and gloom post start filling every St. X thread.

 

Agreed, this is why I am critical of the scrimmage against SK. X was trying out their new offense that is a work in progress, or could say practicing it against real competition. So for #1UK Fan to hold up the trophy because they beat a team that is still learning a new offense, is like celebrating a victory against a team that is missing their best players. X is still figuring out what personel is best for their new system. Boast and brag if you beat them later in the season.

Beatty's first year (2000) they beat X 27-14 and went to the title game only to lose to Male. 2001-2003 Trinity won three in a row. Not sure if that is really an apt comparison.

Some maybe, but I wouldn't call it a direct comparison because there hasn't been a stepping stone coach between the Glaser and Wolford.

 

Now if you want to say after Lampley to Servino, to Wright, and then Beatty then it would be good. For the Tigers' sake though I hope it doesn't take 7 years post Glaser to return to where they want to be.

I am very much looking forward to seeing the Henry Clay/St. X and Lexington Catholic/Ryle doubleheader.

 

Again this season, Henry Clay has a lot of individual talent. I have said and I will reiterate, Davonte Robinson is a fantastic talent. He will get some touches on offense and is very explosive because of his speed. However, his strength and future will be on the defensive side of the football and he will wreak havoc against St. Xavier.

 

My understanding is that highly touted running back Joquise Buford will not play in this and maybe next week's game. Disciplinary measures.

 

Henry Clay will be breaking in a new quarterback. Two quarterbacks will, in some way, alternate at the position. A third will also possibly see some playing time.

 

In the past, St. X has not been very dynamic on offense, but they will begin a new era in style. Probably will take a little time to adjust to the new philosophy.

 

As far as a prediction, I think with a top flight player like Buford being absent, and the unsettled and inexperience at quarterback, will make it tough for Henry Clay to win this evening.

 

I like St. X's disciplined program to prevail in this close, interesting match up.
